Guru was a flash through the woods.
They cannot have found her, oh I hope to God they haven't found her.
His paws flashed on the ground.
She won't survive an hour with those Ryoris after her. She and her unborn pups.
He stopped at the patch of woods before his nest. The vine curtain was ripped open, and you could see scratches on the hard rock.
No. No!
"Tara! No! TARA!" He could see the Ryoris, their bodies shifting, surrounding her. She was slowly circling, her ears laid down flat in fear. He leaped into the cave. "Tara. No. You won't get her!" He yelled at the Ryoris.
Tara looked at him. Her eyes pleaded. He could hear her eyes, they were saying loud and clear.
Help. Please Guru. Help.
He leaped at the nearest Ryori."Leave her alone!" He tugged at Tara and their paws flew, to the exit. A scream of pain. A flash. Darkness. And longing. Longing for the Ryori apocalypse to end. For his soul to be set free.

Guru awoke starving.
Tara! No!
A flare of anger flew up his spine and he looked every where for Tara. She was there, beside him. All was well. And then he looked up.
Wha-what?
He was in a cave, carved out from rock. A female Zolnixi was standing there, her purple fur illuminated in the moonlight. "Finally. You have been out for more than three hours you know. I rescued you from that cave just in time too. That would have turned real ugly real fast. When it comes to Ryoris, you need to get out of there. My name is Nyra."
She twitched, and a ripple was set up her fur. Then Guru noticed something. There were two little Zolnixi pups next to him."I named them Ember and Pyre. I thought you would like that."
Oh. Oh! My own pups, oh they are beautiful.
Guru smiled. "I love them. I love them so much."

Guru awoke. Nyra was standing next to him, watching the sun. And then Tara screamed.
No.I will not let whatever is happening happen. No!
Guru ran, he could hear Nyra's paws pounding at his heels. He arrived a fraction to late, all he saw was Tara being dragged away, her paws scratching the ground. "TARA! NO!" Guru broke down. Tears swam, filling his blue eyes. Nora sat beside him."Ember and Pyre are safe." She whispered.
How did I let this happen. This is all too much. Oh Tara. Tara.
Ember, her red fur almost glowing, snuggled next to him. He hugged her. At least she wasn't gone as well.

After the darkness, Tara awoke.
Wh-where am I? Wh-where is Guru? And the pups! Oh no, I hope they are safe.
A small young Ryori came in, her tail twitching. "I am so sorry." She said finally. She almost began to cry. Then she said, "Let me explain. My elders were the first to start this 'apocalypse.' They never meant to cause pain or harm. They wanted to scare off the Sylesties that had decided they wanted our land. And then Polaris, the Dark Ryori, took over our armies, turned us into what we are now. I lead the rebellion, to end these horrors of Polaris." A young Lupora walked in, her legs manacled with broken chains. She hissed,"We found her mate and pups. They are hiding out in a cave in the Deep North, way into Polar Territory." The Ryori grimaced. She flicked her tail. "Great. Just where we want them. Deep in Polar Territory. As if we didn't have enough to worry about already." She turned to Tara."Stay here. The last thing we need is another dead Rebel on our hands." She stalked out, leaving the Lupora with Tara.

Guru shook.
No. Why. Why does this happen to me? Oh Ember. Oh why?
Ember was gone, all that was left was a stain of blood and a scratch on the rock. Guru weeped. He weeped all through the night and into the day. He looked up two days after to see a Ryori and a Faelora traveling towards him. "The Rebellion is here. Tara is safe." The Ryori said. She glanced up at the mountains where Guru could see perfectly coiled lines of Ryoris training. "We must get out of here. You are so deep into the Polar Territory, you could throw a dart and hit a Ryori. We gotta go." The Faelora at her side, cried a warning just as an armed guard of Ryoris appeared. The Ryori put her paws up. Guru reluctantly did the same, as did the Faelora, Pyre and Nyra. The leader of the armies stalked out. He hissed at the Ryori."Princess Autumn. King Polaris will be so interested in what you are up to. And the king will want them as well." He gestured to the Zolnixies. He flicked his tail at the Faelora and she fled. Surrounded by the armored guard of Ryoris, they trudged through the mountains until Guru could see the palace. And there, surrounded by guards was Tara, a brilliant smile igniting her face.

Tara walked with the general, avoiding watching her child.
I wonder what happened to Ember?
She smiled at her own brilliance. King Polaris would be her beloved, all for a bit of manipulation and a princess. She would be queen of a bold new era, where Ryoris ruled, with all the less pure following their direct orders. It was like paradise, except better because with Polaris, love was eternal. As she walked, her paws padded against the ground. She had already filed an appointment to be changed into a Ryori. It was happening today. And then Polaris and her would rule together. Almost giddy with the thought of this, she walked into the throne room and bowed.
"Rise. Huran is ready to change you."
Tara smiled slightly and rose, walking with Huran, the king's royal scientist. He led her to a smaller machine. She braced for pain as a smallish needle extended from the machine and pierced her flesh. She felt something pulse though her bloodstream and then she felt pure calm. She looked down at her new Ryori body and grateful turned to Huran.
"Thank you. For this I am eternally grateful."
Huran just nodded and Tara walked out into the throne room where Polaris was sitting.
"You are beautiful, my beloved."
Tara nodded at this comment and Polaris gestured to a throne near his. Tara sat down as Guru was dragged, hissing, into the room.
