Okay, so my understanding is that carried genes are genes that can pop up in future offspring and visible genes are only visible in the parents and won't be passed on to future offspring. But when I breed Sylestis with carried genes those specific genes aren't showing up in their babies as carried or visible... Why?

If a parent has a carried gene there's a 50% chance that gene / mutation will be passed onto the offspring. Similarly, there's a 50% chance the gene / mutation will not be passed on.

For the gene to be visible on the offspring, each parent will need to contribute to that particular gene / mutation. As a result, if both parents only have carries in M1, there would only be a 25% chance that the offspring would have a M1 visible.

Visible traits are passed to offspring but unless both parents have a visible trait in the particular gene / mutation then its not guaranteed to be visible in the offspring. If a parent has a visible trait, the offspring is guaranteed to have at least a carry in the same gene / mutation slot.

To have a guaranteed visible in an offspring both parents need to have a visible trait in the particular gene / mutation.

It's a game of chance. Not sure why you've not been seeing any carries or visibles - two thoughts: (a) just unlucky; or (b) you need to get the pets tested.

Pets will only show carried traits once they've been tested. Pets will also only show visible mutations once they reach adolescence (they should show visible genes straight away) so getting them tested when they hatch will let you know straight away.

Hopefully that helps, please let me know if I can clarify anything further.

Edit: Spelling

Okay that cleared the air so much! Thanks a lot, now I know how to go about it. To just double check though, let's say both parents have Rainbow Mane mutation, so that means the baby could get it as a visible or just as a possible carried?

@Cancerian,

If both parents have Rainbow Mane mutation visible, then the child will 100% of the time have a trait in that slot visible.

If both parents have Rainbow Mane mutation carried, then 1/4 of the time the child will have nothing. 1/2 of the time the child will have the mutation carried. And 1/4 of the time the child will have the mutation visible.

This guide might help you, if you're still having trouble.

Also, by default carried traits are not shown in the genetics description unless you use a genetic testing kit.

When one has used a genetic testing kit, an icon will appear in the breeding information.

One more question, what if one has it visible and the other carried?

Or one has visible other has nothing?

Or one has carried other has nothing?

@Cancerian,
If one is visible and the other has nothing, then the baby will always have the trait carried.
Basically, it gets half it's gene from 1 parent, and half it's gene from the other. It needs a whole gene to be visible.

If one has carried, and the other has nothing then the baby will have nothing 50% of the time and carried 50% of the time. A parent with a carried trait has a 50% chance of giving it's offspring it's half of the trait. While the parent with nothing will 100% of the time give the offspring nothing.

If you look up a youtube video on Punnett Squares, it'll explain how it works. There isn't anything fancy going on, just a simple principle from 9th grade bio.

Carried and visible combined:

50% of the time visible
50% of the time carried

because visible parent contributes 100% of the time, carried parent only contributes 50% of the time.

Thank you for that, it was very helpful! I now understand that,
V+V=100%V
C+C= 25%V or 50%C or 25%Nothing
V+C= 50%C or 50%V
V+Nothing= 100%C
C+Nothing= 50%C 50%Nothing

And I understand A> B> C> D> E

So that means.

If my Bulbori Female has slot 2 iridescent gems visible, and my male Bulbori has slot 2 Sunset gems visible, even though they're different traits, does it still apply to the table above? And it'll be 100% guaranteed their baby will have a visible slot two visible but have whichever one is more dominant as the visible?
