So, say maybe you are doing a secret breeding project that you want no one to see until the end. But of course you have no way to hide those certain projects because anyone can see that tab in you stable. My idea is there should be a locking feature where you can "lock" the tabs you don't want anyone seeing. This would allow people to keep some of the sylestis secret or too themselves. Please if you have any thing to say respond!

Support!
This would also be useful for pets I don't want to sell, but people keep offering and offering. Secret tabs would be cool, specially if you planned on gifting someone something.

This is a nice idea because it means we'd be able to hide the pages and pages of project pets that are super boring to look at BUT you have to go deeper and ask if pets on "locked" tabs would be hidden from public view on advanced search all together or not because this could easily go in the total opposite direction and some people would hide all their pets from public view - we'd end up with a scenario where breeding and buying/selling along with theme preservation etc would be much harder because we'd not be able to look and see that there are x amount of pets of a particular theme with a particular gene because half of them (or all if there's only a handful) might be hidden from view. The beauty of advanced search is that you can make contact with people to arrange breeding swaps you might have had no idea could happen - this might jeopardise that and lead to a less open and community friendly vibe.
Better to just hide gifts in plain sight in a low place on a full tab, most people don't go to the effort to dig through tabs upon tabs :P
I'm torn on this but thought I'd throw my 2 cents in anyway!

I really like this idea! But maybe 1-2 per stable, just in case it got out of hand

I'd support this, even though personally I doubt I would use it much.
As far as this somehow jeapordizing the way people can find themed pets and all that? Um, forgive me but if you want to hide your themed pets, isn't that exactly what this is about, so you don't get hounded to sell/breed those pets? Personally I think if you want to hide them, they are your pets, you should be able to do so. I don't see how that does anything to jeapordize the way others play... if you don't want people hounding you about them, you also won't welcome people asking for breeding rights, so that whole argument is a complete wash.
On the other hand, to be able to hide a project till it's completed, or hide presents to friends sounds like a cool way to actually increase interaction in the community here. I think that's worth the small risk some projects might be somehow made more difficult.
Also, for the search, just because they are hidden (and I would hope that would mean they wouldn't show up in a search), doesn't mean that the search for a theme wouldn't tell you how many of a theme are out there. It could still do that, depending on how Krin codes the search function part. It could simply tell you there are 349 of a certain theme, but only show 26 pages of pets since the others are all hidden.

I already made my point but now feel I need to defend my opinion, as it is just as valid as everyone elses and isn't "awash" as suggested.
I don't think people having the ability to hide their entire pet collection is more important than the basic function of the game. A lot of the time breeding and sales happen with regards to pets that are gathering dust in stables and aren't used. If someone contacted me about a pet they wanted to breed/buy - as happens often as this is a site with a nice community - I certainly wouldn't overreact and decide that they were hounding me I would either reply yes or no. That's an every day thing on this site. If they take it further there are block features. Most people who own the kinds of pets that would be looked up in advanced search for breeding purposes understand why people would want to breed with their pets. Breeding and the buying and selling of pets is a regular part of the game, a moneymaker and something a lot of people get joy out of.
Knowing how many of a theme there are is useless - knowing which traits are and aren't present is something that has use for the preservation of the theme itself. The majority of the site doesn't choose to play this game in a totally self-absorbed bubble and prefer to see the bigger picture, the community, the future, having traits available across themes is something that impacts everyone once the theme is no longer available.
Taking the view of this as a privacy function as you have instead of a cute idea for hiding gifts, I imagine people, especially those who haven't taken the time yet or had the chance to get involved with the community, would just automatically select it as privacy is a big thing in a lot of other games for various reasons. This means, under your vision, that they do not get the option of selling/breeding their pet even if they are new and offered an amount of gold that would really boost their gameplay as they are lead to believe that someone contacting them is a bad thing which they need to avoid.
Buying and selling and breeding happens every day as not everyone has an entire breeding stock just sitting around for them to work projects with. Most people are very polite about it.
I feel this feature would break down communication channels and people shouldn't need a feature to hide their pets away as an answer - if someone is bothering them there are block features and admins for that but suggesting that mailing someone asking a question is hounding is bizarre and unfair on the vast majority of the site users.
The general use of the suggestions forum I would say is not to take it upon yourself to break down someone else's opinion as though it is less valid than yours because it's a different opinion, but to respond to the main point with your own thoughts which we can ponder and respect. Cheers.

I agree with Lavelle and do not support.
I'm not saying it's a terrible idea as much as it seems like a great idea for a lot of reasons but at the same time seems like the repercussions would start small and turn into a big thing later. I do contact people about breeding with their pets in return for compensation as do a large part of the community. I welcome users to contact me for breeds even if I am doing a breeding project that I don't want to share because sometimes they have genes/mutations I do not and would like to obtain. To remove pets from view would mess with a lot of breeding projects of multiple users.
I would also like to add this is a suggestions forum. Not a attack and destroy other people's arguments or opinions forum. As such I do request that people show respect to other players and their opinions on the matter as this seems to be a highly debatable topic.
^^
*edit*
I would also like to add that if a user desperate for a certain gene or mutation were to contact me asking for a breed with something but had the audacity to have their things hidden so that I could request a compensation I would have liked better or considered fair.... Well I would be quite irritated.

So let me get this straight... you two are essentially saying that your right to view my pets and potentially breed with them is more important than my right to hold my pets privately and not to have to interact with other players wanting to breed with them?
I am sorry, but some of us do pretty much like to play the game in our own little bubbles, without being hassled by others. Maybe that wording is too strong for you... but essentially it is true. I'll stand by my arguments, thanks.
In the interest of keeping this from devolving into a flame war, if you want to continue this discussion, feel free to mail me privately.

I don't mind having my pets out in the open, as I like having stables upon stables of publicly breedable pets for community reasons, BUT. That's me. I wouldn't mind also having a lockable tab to hide presents or secret projects in, and I highly doubt that anybody who'd want to have their entire stable locked would be very open and friendly about selling or breeding their pets to random users in the first place, no matter how many "friendly" messages they get.
So, really, letting the grumpy misers lock away their pets saves time for (1) the miser from having to answer 1,001 messages asking about the same pets that they don't want to share and (2) the average player who might see the pets and get their hopes up, only to be disappointed when they get "go away" or no reply at all.
The way I see it, the pros are:
* hiding presents
* surprising everyone with finished projects
* avoiding having your project ideas stolen as you're breeding them
* using part of a stable for sales and the other for something else without confusion
* not being harassed about the same rare pet over and over again
the cons:
* idk maybe you might forget to unlock a tab once in a while or something
