honestly i'm still trying to figure that out. i know that you get the gene points from the essences, but i dunno about trait points. i think i read somewhere that you earn them through breeding and the more visible/carried genes it gets it has a possibility of earning you points, i'm not sure.

you can use a genetic mutator for add 1 (1 carry) or 2 (1 vis) on a wild pet. For the others one you can't add trait point on them but you can breed them for get a offspring with more points

Trait points are only really used when generating or re-generating a pet. E.g. When using an essence or during one of the pet revamps. (The Morrko revamp was pretty recently.)

A visible gene/mutation is worth 2 trait points whilst a carried gene/mutation is worth 1 trait point. (I think this is what Ryliq meant with gene points. ^.^)

When you're generating a pet you get a limited number of trait points (I think the most is 4) for that pet. That means you have to choose whether or not you want 1 visible trait and 2 carries, 2 visible traits, or 4 carried traits.

For Example, this Zolnixi has Ocelot (Gene 1) and Flower Vines (Mutation 2) as visible traits.

This means that she has 4 trait points in total as both the 2 visible traits are worth 2 trait points each. ^.^

On the other hand, this Zolnixi has Ocelot (Gene 1) and Flower Vines (Mutation 2) as carried traits.

This means she has 2 trait points total as both the 2 carried traits are worth 1 trait point each. ^.^

The only way to add trait points to a pet after it's been created is by using a genetic mutator or a lesser genetic mutator. This will add either a gene or a mutation to a pet (as a carry or a visible) and will increase the trait points of the pet by default.

Breeding pets will mean that the offspring will have the chance to have the traits of the parents. In this example the male Zolnixi (Zolnixi A) has a carried Ocelot Gene and the female Zolnixi (Zolnixi B) has a carried Flower Vines Mutation.

Both Zolnixi A and Zolnixi B have 1 trait point each as both their traits (Genes/Mutations) are carried.
Their Offspring has a chance to have both Ocelot and Flower vines as carried traits and so would have 2 trait points alltogether.

I hope this helps! ^.^

If you go to the Sylesti Generator, it'll help you visualise trait points more easily.

Basically though, trait points are summed up thusly:
* Your pet has potentially 3 genes and 3 mutations. (Mutations change the physicality of your pet, whereas genes focus on the patterns.)
* Each carried gene/mutation is equal to 1 trait.
* Each visible gene/mutation is equal to 2 traits.

This post's breeding section goes into more detail.

To add traits to your current pet, they need to meet three quotas.
Firstly, they have to be a tamed pet. The lookup below qualifies:

Whereas this one doesn't, as they have a mother and father:

Secondly, they also must have had no children.

Thirdly, they cannot have already been mutated. To check if your pet has been mutated, there is an icon under 'This is a Tamed Sylesti':

Should your Sylesti qualify, then you'll need a mutator. They come in two flavours. Lesser Mutators and Greater Mutators. Lesser Mutators are a bit of a gamble: You get a random carried/visible gene/mutation added to your pet. Greater Mutators will always add a visible gene/mutation, you also get to choose it. Lesser Mutators are available to buy in the Scale Shop. Greater Mutators can be bought in the Diamond Shop.

You earn Scales by nurturing pets (Click on your Hatchery > Help Nurture Sylestis.) Each nurture gives you a Scale. (You can also get essences and festival tokens - during festivals - for nurturing.)

Diamonds are the real money currency of Sylestia. You can buy Diamonds at any point, but there are often sales held around the quarterly festivals. (Each season has a festival: They're mega fun!) Should you prefer not to use real money for the site, you can trade gold for diamonds at the Currency Exchange. Like any exchange rate, the value of gold to diamonds fluctuates. It's generally the highest during festivals.

I hope this gives you all the information you were looking for. If you're still a bit puzzled give me a poke. :)
