You can't battle with a pet that's at a higher level than the first pet you've trained.

In other words, until you train a pet up to level 60 yourself, no pets at that level can go in your party. You can, however, use them for missions.

Using experience orbs is the fastest way to level up your own pet, but I would recommend staying close to the levels of the enemies in the zone you're in. It's not very much fun if it's too easy!

@Rixva, just a slight correction: It's not the first pet you've trained, but a pet that you've leveled up yourself. So technically, you can buy a level 59 pet, send it on missions/use exp orbs till it's level 60, level up that, and your player level should be level 60.

Unless the system was changed and I wasn't aware of it. =P

But yes, I agree with Rixva that it's more fun to be closer to the enemies level or there will be little fun in battling. I personally like to be a few levels higher, so there's still a challenge, esp with bosses, but it's not overkill.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that! I suppose it makes sense, even if it seems a little too easy ;P Thanks for pointing that out.
