Since I am new to the site, I am pretty confused about how to earn the currency for the fall festival shop. I have a couple of coins and am unsure where they came from- does it just drop randomly in the Fall Festival zone?

You can get tokens from exploring/battling in the festival zone. You can also get them from nurturing, opening handfuls of candy (trick or treat), or the haunted house.
You can buy more tokens on the trade broker. Or if you have spare that you're not using, you can sell it there.
