My pup's breeder started going through photos from the show we competed in this summer, and she posted one of my boy Maytag on the lure! This summer was his first time actually racing with other dogs and he did so well for himself! I imagine I'll have conformation photos soon, too, which will be exciting since he came in first in his class, then went on to win Reserve Winner's Dog :D

Maytag's first lure (6 mos)

Also, if anyone wants to follow Maytag's adventures, here's my tumblr blog of him: Whippalatine

He's really beautiful! I love sighthounds; adopting a retired racing greyhound someday is on my bucket list. What is Maytag? I've never seen a whippet with long fur like that before.

Thanks!

Maytag is a Longhaired whippet. They are not recognized as part of the whippet breed because they are a mix of whippet and, about 70 years ago, Shetland Sheepdog. They are predominately whippet, but there are quite a few behavioral (and color) differences. For example, Longhaired whippets and Silken windhounds (LHW/Borzoi mixes) tend to be more bidable than other sighthounds. You can't trust a whippet off leash because regardless of training when they see something they want to chase (squirrel/chipmunk/cat) their instincts take over and they are gone. with LHWs, though, the herding instincts of the sheltie has dimmed those of the sighthound resulting in a whippet with longer fur that can be called off the chase or redirected before they even start running :D

It's great that you're interested in a greyound! They are very good apartment dogs so long as they have a safe place to run every day, like a fenced in dog park.

Oh man, Borzoi play like horses; it's so fun to watch!

We go to the dog park a couple of times a week and Maytag tends to "box" with dogs he really likes to play with...I always worry when he pick a larger dog 'cause they might accidentally land on him, but he's pretty good about going after dogs his own height at least :)

Anywho, there's a woman who we see all the time there who owns two borzoi under 2 And I loooooooooove it when they play with each other; it's all headbutting, body checking, prance-hopping, and biting <3

*Watches Maytag chase his tail, end up grabbing his hind leg, then stumble around, dizzy, and nearly fall over* Yes, so majestic XD He is quite a sight to see when he's running, though :) My goal is for him to beat his brother racing (Simon is developing faster, but I'm hoping Maytag is at least able to hold his own once they've both matured!)
