I bred two of my zolnixi together - both with the witch doctor and steampunk gene/mutation - and their offspring has the kitsune gene? I mean, not that I mind, but after reading over the genetics a little I thought that their offspring would have the witch doctor gene. XD I know carried genes can show up in later lines, but does that mean that genes can be carried without showing up as carried? (I believe the father's grandmother had the kitsune gene).
Sorry. I'm still trying to get the hang of how genetics work on this site. XD

Have the parents been tested?

No, I didn't test them, and the little symbol that shows they've been tested isn't in their info. None of their genes/mutations says they're unknown though.
These are the parents:

Get them tested, 99% of the time when a gene or mutation slot says none, if they haven't been tested they carry the gene that's showing in their offspring. But then it may be recessive if it obviously doesn't show in the parents. Free testing right here in the breeding thread. Kittenroar is a good candidate. Fast and reliable ^.^*
