I'm new and I've been playing around with breeding nixis a bit and I bought these two chuckleheads.

I bred them together and they had this precious little angel.

Which is fine, I freaking love her, especially her visible Witch Doctor trait, I LOVE the witch doctor trait, but...um...neither of her parents have it? They dont even carry it.

So, do traits like skip generations? can they just mutate randomly?? I went back a bit in her lineage and I think her like, great great grandfather or something has Witch Doctor, but I thought only the immediate parents traits mattered?

I'm sure I'm just overlooking some obvious thing, since I'm still a n00b, but could someone fill me in maybe?

I had a look at the parents... Their image URLs are as follows:

https://www.sylestia.com/image_builder_pet.php?species=zolnixi&breed=sylesti&gender=male&gd1=DE&gd2=BD&gd3=II&md1=NA&md2=CI&md3=GG&ec=dee1d4&c1=8da451&c2=f3dcdf&c3=ceb8b7&gd1c=d7d9dc&gd2c=e4e6e0&gd3c=dbe29f&md1c=e6dde3&md2c=e4e8da&md3c=444b55&maturity=648&owned=1&size=250

(I've coloured the relevant bits in red.)

As you can see, for Gene 2, Mum shows (A) Marbled Fox with a recessive hidden carry (C) Witch Doctor, Dad shows (B) Fallow Deer with a recessive hidden carry (D) Kitsune.

This would be the order of dominance (from most dominant to least):
(A) Marbled Fox
(B) Fallow Deer
(C) Witch Doctor
(D) Kitsune

As the parents contribute one of each of theirs to the offspring the Gene 2 combinations for the offspring are as follows:
(A)(B) Marbled Fox shows with Fallow Deer hidden carry
(A)(D) Marbled Fox shows with Kitsune hidden carry
(B)(C) Fallow Deer shows with Witch Doctor hidden carry
(C)(D) Witch Doctor with Kitsune hidden carry

The trait is there as a carry and you just got lucky - congrats! :)

(As an offside, I believe hidden carries will only show once the pet is tested which is why it looks like the offspring has CC contributed from both parents - testing should confirm that it actually doesn't.)

The mother has carried Witch Doctor ^u^ Some pets have hidden carries (i.e. carried traits in the same slot as their visible traits). The only way to find out if your pets have hidden traits is through the "Advanced Search" option. Type in the name or ID of your pet, or even your own name or ID, into the appropriate spaces and you should be able to find your pets. Then click on "Genetics," this should allow you to see the traits your pet carries/shows. Hidden traits are in purple. For example, in the G2 slot of your mother, she has (AC) Marbled Fox. The first letter is what is visible and the second is what is carried. So the 'A' is her visible Marbled Fox trait and the 'C' is her carried Witch Doctor Trait.

I hope that made sense ^^
