So i know a lot of art forums have a thread for people to show off improvement, but i don't see an active one so i thought i'd start one! (I won't post myself right away, i have to do my yearly redraw and i wanna get the thread posted before that.)

Looking at old art compared to new work can be very uplifting and encouraging, especially when you're feeling down about your art. This is not a thread to make you feel inferior about your art, this is a negativity-free zone! In fact, if you see someone who you consider to be 'better' than you, pay attention to their old art--they started somewhere, and so did you! We all improve at our own paces, and you should be proud of every little line you make.

So, either post before/after redraws, or just old and new art to compare! Your talent is a journey, and it's really fun to look back and see just how far you've come!

this is an awesome idea! It always encourages me when I look at my old art and think "wow, I used to suck even more than I do now! I got so much better!" and I also really enjoy redrawing crappy drawings from a few years ago to compare. Sadly, I'm not on my own computer right now, so I don't have any access to my art, but when I do have access ( in about a week lol) then I will be sure to post a comparison of my old and my new art because holy moly is it encouraging

As soon as I saw this thread I sifted through my recycle bin & folders to find a drawing worthy of remake.
Then I sat down for a couple of hours to create it.

A couple of years ago, I used to post art I made with my mouse & keyboard on Roblox as gifts or fanart during 2012-2014 (all of my friends there will nod their heads sadly and sigh in acknowledgement). This is one such piece, from when I was going crazy about Warrior Cats and spent my days roleplaying.

My Warriors OC, Snowthorn:

(2012, made in GIMP 2.0 with a mouse and no experience):

(2015, made in Paint Tool Sai with a Wacom Intuos and a bit more experience):

Bear in mind, in original concepts she is blind and was meant to be a more Russian-bluish-gray with faded markings (as shown in the remake.) Younger me was not aware of things like 'shading', either.

@Rythym--Oh man, that's AMAZING!

Yeah, you certainly learned a lot about feline anatomy and color theory, heh.

@Sheepy--Yeah, i was looking for an olllld pic to redraw(was gonna revamp it too, make it print-worthy), and i came across an old headshot doodle. Utterly amazed at how bad it looked, oh my god, but then i thought to compare it to a recent headshot doodle and MY GOD.

Oh geez. I dug out the ol' photobucket account; the bad news, I nearly had a heart attack at some of the stuff in there, the good news, I've improved, I think. xD

The old (A couple years ago, not sure how many):

The new (Just now):

I didn't have time to color it, but this is such a great idea!

@Cyan,
Haha, thanks. This is about the first time I've drawn a domestic cat in about a year, though, so this was somewhat experimental so far as body structure. xD

@Strike
DUUUUDE
As if the older version wasn't good enough, in the new drawing everything looks so much more... natural. Just the flow of the scarf, the hair, the detail on the ears, the overall proportion and anatomy...
