So I have been reading that after 27 days a sylesti pet should become an adult (from an egg) but I have 2 pets who are 28 days old and are still adolescents. Did I read the wrong number somewhere? when will they be adults?

I replied in detail to your other question in the other forum

27 days is only a rough gauge. It can be slightly longer or shorter depending on circumstances.

The age and maturity of the pet are two different things.

The age indicates the number of days since the pet has been created, while the maturity of the pet indicates what stage the pet is at. So when the age of the pet says it's 28 days old, it is only indicating that the pet has been created in the system for 28 days.

To know the maturity of the pet, you will have to copy the image url, and at the end of the url there will be a &maturity=___, where the number there indicates the pet's maturity in hours. The exact maturity of the pet will be shown only if the pet has been genetically tested, otherwise the maturity will be the hours required to reach that stage (ie 216 hours for adolescent)

For maturity, it takes:
75 hours - hatchling
216 hours - adolescent
648 hours - adult

The reason why maturity and age are two different values is because not all pets start at the same point. Especially when you find pets from the wild, the egglings and hatchlings are usually not at 0 maturity, and willl hatch/grow to the next stage faster than those that were bred.

Also, there are ways to increase the maturity of the pet. Nurturing increase maturity for egglings, page views for hatchlings, while using magical pies on adolescents increase their maturity. So often, the maturity of the pet is higher than the age of the pet.

However, when the site is taken down for maintenance and such, the maturity of the pets are frozen during this period to prevent pets from "growing up" during this time, and accidentally being released because players cannot get on to the game. So if the site is offline for a day, the pet's age will increase by 1, but the maturity will still remain the same.
