Hey! I've just joined and I'm getting the hang of the quests, missions and other features. However, I want to get into breeding sylesti's, for stats and appearance, so I can sell them. I'd like to eventually cultivate sylesti's that are attractive to buyers, but being new, I'm not sure what the market looks like. It seems pretty stratified from what I've seen in the threads so far. I haven't been able to tell directly what is more popular than others, though of course the "cooler" looking ones with higher stats will be desirable-- but I want to know what the "best" sylesti's are, so I can figure out how to make them! :)
Also, what is a reasonable price range for each "quality" of sylesti? Does it change with inflation? Also, what's the deal with "themed" sylesti's? What are they?
Thank you, I appreciate any advice! I apologize if this information is elsewhere and I failed to find it.

What's "attractive" is pretty subjective. For example, some people may love pastel coloured pets and hate darker designs while others may be the opposite. I think your main aim would be designs with colours that complement each other. One person may also like particular traits but despise others and another person may be the opposite.
As for species, that varies as well. Many people like Nixis whereas, since the redesign, I'm not particularly fond of Nixis and wouldn't really be interested in buying one. The species that either can't or are very very rare to find in the wild (except maybe festivals) are pretty popular: Aeridini, Griffi, Lighira, Nephini, Ny'vene, Puffadore, Ryori.
"Themed" sylesti are those that were available during festivals and were designed to fit a certain theme. Original themes sylesti you can identify because they have purple text in the Genetics section of their profile identifying the theme (example - Sunsong Gazania Sylvorpa). In order to identify purebred offspring, you need to trace back through the sylesti's lineage to confirm that all parents were original themed or purebred themed.
As for pricing, can't really help you there. I believe someone was attempting to survey some of the users who do a lot of breeding but I don't know where that's at. You can use Advanced Search to get an idea but there's quite a lot of variation.
People approach breeding differently. For example, some users will release all pets, except the end product, during a project in order to maintain the value while others are happy to sell "failed" project attempts. Ultimately, I think it comes down to what you're most comfortable with... You can always test the market with pricing, if you start high and no one is interested then you can always drop the price until you get interest (supply and demand and all that jazz).
Good luck!

Wander covered a lot of stuff, but I have some advice to add onto what they said. A useful thread for what you are trying to do is Zarhail's "Breeding to Sell" guide.
I would start by deciding what you like to collect for yourself. The pet economy on this game is a bit funny, and it's very hard to sell pets. Choose a species, colour scheme or traits that you enjoy and go from there. For example I love ny'venes, so I am building myself an army and people may buy offspring from my projects if they wish but it's not my ultimate goal.
Another thing to keep in mind (and something Wander touched on) is whether you want your pets to be exclusive or if you are not concerned about who is buying and how many are bought. If you are breeding pets to sell I strongly suggest that you make the pets very exclusive. Exclusivity increases the overall value of a pet. Release any pets you don't need during the breeding process and only when the project is complete should you sell the offspring.
If you are looking to make money off of selling pets I would look into themed pets. Invest in some cheap offspring (make sure you look in the lineage to make sure all parents go back to starred pets). People love to collect themed pets, especially the fabled species. Themed pets are by far the best money-makers for me personally. I sell a lot more themed pets compared to my personal designs... and I am less concerned about only selling the final offspring and am comfortable selling failed offspring that I don't need.
Make sure you read breeding guides in the player guides forum. In order to save time and money you should know how it works and the best method that would work for you before you do anything.
If you need help with breeding or have any other questions about the site feel free to ping or message me. :)
