Can you generate more? Why won't it let me? Do you need a special type of currency to do so?

You need essences! They're available either from the Diamond Shop or the Trade Broker. You can also get them from random drops from Nurturing in your hatchery, and Missions, but these are suuuper rare occurrences. You can also play Jinxie's Jamboree, but that's also a really small chance.

Till you can get them, it's probably best to catch pets in the wild and breed them. You can get traps in Town Markets, and breed Adult pets in the Breeding Grounds or off the profiles of pets who are set to breed!

edit: Also, Regular Essences will have fewer space for traits than Enhanced and Mystical Essences. Regular Essences also won't give you the exact result you want as far as colors go, and that chance gets better with Enhanced and even better with Mystical Essences.

My favorite way to get more pets is to use the. Advanced search function on your left to find cheap pets for sale!bi also got essences for generating new pets from the festival zone.

Essences are not exclusive to being bought from the diamond shop. It is possible to find essences through nurturing, battling, forum games, Jinxie's Jamboree, dungeon prizes, satchel rewards (from completing missions) and buying them from other players on the trade broker. They are rare and are valued because when you generate a pet you can choose specific colors and specific traits~ pets in this game are not hard to come by, but they're randomly generated (excluding themed pets) with colors from anywhere in the color spectrum and almost any traits available to that species(the current exception being the Windchaser Luffox traits/themed pet). Pets colors can be dyed and tamed pets can be mutated to have specific genes/traits. Part of the fun of Sylestia is creating personal projects (choosing color schemes and traits for a pet) as future goals to reach, it can be done the easy way (through buying, convenience is the name of the game here) or the hard way (obtaining the pets, dying, mutating, etc.).

By the way; the advanced search is SOOOOO much cheaper then catching pets.
Most of the times the traps don't work and then you just wasted a thousand dollars or the times the traps do work the pet sucks because you couldn't catch anything good. On the other hand, buying pets can be cheap, fast and easy.
Most of the time their are REALLY good pets for only 500 in the advanced search. I found one once that was 50 and really really good.

My advice; go there.

Since it seems everyone else has already explained this to you, I shall refrain from doing so again. If you want, I have a regular aurleon essence to get you started. I'm likely to never use it, and I'd rather it didn't just sit in my inventory. Check the Pet Shelter thread in the contest/giveaway area for really cheap pets - the maximum is 60g for an adult or adolescent, and free if you're a newbie.
