I never thought this would be a problem for me, but the forced releasing of pets has gotten out-of-hand. I'd go to bed after clearing out some slots in my Stables, wake up the next morning, and not only are my Stables filled up again, but about seven pets were forcibly released. Today was worse. I got the five pets forcibly released this morning, went to school, came back home two hours later, and nine more were released.
I'm not proposing we abolish this all-together (though that would be much less stressful), my proposal is this: Instead of releasing them out-right, never to be seen again, matured pets will be put on hold for a set amount of days and, for a price, we can reclaim them. If the time runs out, they'll get released permanently, but in those few days of 'on hold', we can pay gold to reclaim them, like a pet lay-away. Again, ONLY for forcibly-released pets, and we pay, like, 1k to reclaim them, or something.

Just to clarify, you're talking about pets becoming adults and being moved to stables, right? At first I thought you were referring to the releasing portion of the fest and I was getting confused about the whole "stables filled up" part.

That would be great if we could do that. I've lost so many amazing pets by accident, thanks to forced release.

There was talk a while back about wanting to give the users a way to reclaim their released pets for a fee. I'm hoping it will be a new feature in the upcoming revamp as this would solve this problem.
I believe, if they are named they don't get released.. but I'm not 100% sure on that.
Personally, I don't have an issue with pets being auto-released because I've always just manually released unwanted ones right away and moved the wanted ones to stables as soon as their old enough. Granted.. I've spent a lot on stables too.

Part of me wants to say your given tons of time already to clear enough stable room this shouldn't be a problem in the first place...
but on the other hand I tend to breed WAYYYYY more than I should myself and know I have had to emergency release a couple of times myself, to make sure this doesn't happen. So yeah, I would support something like this. Even for ones that are named, if there is no room in your stable, where are they gonna go? You don't automatically get more room just cause you took the time to name them. Something like this would be awesome.
I would actually like to see it more generalized, and be able to re-capture any pet I release, but maybe that's another discussion, lol.

We have a few things in place already to help avoid this.
The simplest things that you can do is to always make sure that there are enough room in your Stables for the pets that are in your Hatchery. If you see that you have more in your Hatchery than you have space for, you have roughly 27 days (per pet) to figure out how to make room for them.
Additionally, you can set the auto release to release Un-named pets only and then the pets that you for sure want, you just simply give them a name and only those will be moved to your Stables.
Technically, Adolescents don't belong in the Hatchery. So at this time, we are giving you roughly 18 days of grace period to figure out whether or not you want a pet.

I understand all the extra time we have to figure out which pets we want to keep, but it still happens sometimes.
I jsut had a thought on a possible mechanism for recovering pets. What if we could simply go through the lineage logs for our pets to find offspring we have released, and when we find one we want back, have a button on their pet page that says "recover" or "recapture" or something, and by clicking on it you would go into a battle, and have the chance to re-capture the pt, just like you would any of the pets you encounter in one of the zones? Using traps and all that. Preferably using green traps, of course, lol. This would make it a bit of work to get your pet back, and would have the expense of buying the traps, but you could battle once a day or something til you were able to recapture the pet? Seems to me it would be a fun way to be able to get your pets back if you released one you later decided you wanted back for whatever reason.
Alternately, there could be a log somewhere of pets you released, and you could access them to battle/recapture that way. I dunno, just seemed like an appropriate way to be able to recover pets.

There will be a way to reclaim released pets after relaunch.
