To answer your question, if you don't enrich a plant, it simply doesn't get the growth boost, but it will still grow. If you don't use a fertilizer, the plant will still grow, but if it's unfertilized by the time it's ready to harvest, it will not have any visible traits and will only have carried traits, though I'm not sure on how many.

So if it has basic dirt it isn't fertilized but if it has lesser or greater fertizer it'll have visible traits?

Fertilizer was like the seeds, you get them from regular or premium bags. Currently the only way is through the festival and the diamond shop, however others can use their fertilizers on your plants. ^^

And yes, basic dirt is unfertilized and only gives carries. The fertilizers give 1vis per rank. ^^
