1) How many dyes can you use per pet? If I've got 10 dyes, can I completely revamp my pet?

2) How close can you inbreed? I know you can't breed siblings or half siblings, but are cousins OK?

1. You can use infinite dyes per pet. Go wild ;D

2. You can breed any two pets that don't share parents.

Ah, thanks :D That means my breeding project is a) not so hopeless after all and b) not dependent on color because I can just re-dye the pet :D
