Is there a way to search the forum/boards based on certain criteria? Because if there is I can't find it.

Nope. This is a feature that has been suggested many times.
Currently they are doing a recoding of the entirety of Sylestia.com that will be released within the next year; it will probably be included in the new version. Until then we will not be receiving these types of improvements and updates to the site.
