I was in a battle with an uncommon Sylvorpa. I used one of the nets I bought to catch it....but its not showing up in my stables or hatchery.

Are you sure that the trap succeeded? They can fail and cause the wild selesti to run away and if you're not really paying attention, it can look like you caught it to a swift eye.

It said I was victorious and I got zero ex points or coins...so thats supposed to mean it worked right?

Whenever a pet is caught OR flees, the battle ends, you get 0 xp and 0 rewards.
So whenever you try and catch something, make sure to read the battle log and see if something was caught or not. It either will say:
-[pet] was caught and placed in your stables!
Here, the [pet] part will be a BLUE CLICKABLE link to your pet. This is the surest way to know that you caught the pet.
-You tried to catch [pet] but it failed! Scared, [pet] fled the battle!
Here, the pet is in red bold text, and results in no capture.
