[*stakes out a small spot for his profiles* May come back and refine these later but for now... here you go! ...I may have gotten a little carried away here >.>]
Name: Verlac, Watson Phillip
Age: 45
Appearance:
Height: 6'2
Weight: 170
Hair/Eyes: Brown/Brown
Important features:
Most non-standard features are not so obvious unless you happen to see him without a shirt. For starters, he possesses a scar on his abdomen from an appendix surgery as a child- pretty standard. Less standard, however, are the scars on his ribcage- short, pink lines in horizontal alignment, seeming to have been applied in an almost... methodical manner. Wats holds no air of mystery abut them, though- if one is lucky enough to see them and bold enough to ask, he will explain they were self-inflicted during a time in his life he struggled with depression and dark thoughts; a time he has claimed to moved on past.
Other than the scars, Watson is a fair average-looking fellow. He's somewhat tall, with a lean build. He's made a point to keep in shape, even as he grows older. While he won't be winning any Mr. Universe shows, regular walks and bike rides has kept him nicely toned. He also tends to wear his hair long, gathered back in a ponytail. Given his age, there is no surprise that there is some graying present at the temples. He keeps neatly groomed and clean-shaven- though in colder months he may sport a small, tightly-trimmed beard on his chin.
History:
Watson comes from a family line well-involved in law enforcement. His grandfather was a cop, his father was a cop, and one of his brothers was a cop (and one sister, a lawyer). Though his other siblings (two brothers and another sister) did not walk the path of the legal field, they kept their heads down and stayed out of trouble.
Wats, though... he was always the 'problem child' of the family growing up. If someone was going to get in trouble, he'd be it. It didn't matter of the other siblings of neighborhood kids were doing similar things... Wats was always the unlucky one to be honed in on. He ended up in Juvenile Detention a couple times, and once he crested 18, jail a few more.
His family was never too hard on him, though- they were not mean, just disappointed (an d more than somewhat embarrassed). Mercifully for his parents, Watson eventually caught on to keeping out of trouble and his wildness mellowed.
About that time, he started taking a more keen interest in technology. He'd always done well to keep up with the modern advances, but it was in his mid-20's that he truly delved into it. Watching computer in general evolve from the boxy brutes of old to the slimmer, flashier models of the future was of great interest and so as soon as he was able, he procure models of his own and sourcebooks on how they worked. He dabbled in programming, troubleshooting and eventually... hacking. Seems there was still a flash of impish lawbender left in him.
He didn't become too serious with hacking and cracking until the times allowed for more widespread and accessible methods and applications. Around that time, he started taking jobs of dubious legality, masked by his more 'professional' IT jobs. This is around the time he acquired the nickname "Warlock", derived less from a seemingly magic way of cracking into most things and more from his surname (unsurprisingly, the German word for "warlock"). Eventually, though, he started to draw the wrong attention and thus it was 'strongly suggested' he apply his skills in a useful manner by joining up with The White Hat, lest he wanted more trouble...
Personality:
Watson is a generally reserved sort of person these days, patient and quiet, not prone to flightiness or hyperactivity. Of course, just because he is quiet doesn't mean he is humorless- indeed, he seems fond of making deadpan jokes here and there, exercising a dry wit.
Stoic or not, witty or not... Wats can become quite intense if you push his buttons just right. Most would be well advised not to try and elicit a reaction. Remnants of his rebellious, rough past remain deeply buried and unearthing it... is inadvisable.
Type of agent: Field would be preferable. Wats does well with people and though his skill at a computer in the office is good, being indoors all the time tends to depress him somewhat and thus deteriorates his working ability.

Name: Ford, Silas Leon (aka, "Asylum")
Age: 23
Appearance:
Height: 5'6
Hair/eye color: Blonde/Blue
Important features:
Does a loud and sometimes clashing fashion sense count as an important feature? Sy is prone to either wearing brightly colored t-shirts that at times scream '80's chic', Hawaiian shirts or (most commonly) layering his orange flannel overshirt with t-shirts that very obviously do not fit the color scheme.
Physically? Sy is fairly average- no scars, no tattoos, no special traits of note out of the ordinary (aside from a somewhat colorful dress style). He wears his hair cut short and shaggy and the only real trait of note is a light dusting of freckles. Sy is alright with this, though- we can't all be special snowflakes and being too noticeable can be a downside- if you look pretty standard, you can sneak and coast through life much easier and with less hassle!
History:
Silas grew up as a child of the foster system from an early age. He doesn't remember much of his parents, but he doesn't have a deep longing to find them- as he puts it, "it's hard to miss and yearn for what you don't even remember". Of course, once he hit 18, he was out of the system and on his own. The woman who fostered him was an older lady and though she didn't just boot him out, Silas didn't want to beg and plead to stay and burden her- she had her own problems regarding health without worrying about him.
So he was homeless for a brief time, getting by with a lot of couch surfing and the likes. Then, he ran into "Syntax", who offered him shelter in exchange for a) splitting the rent and utilities of the apartment and b) working for him an his business. Si never really learned Syntax's real name, nor did he pry- he was just happy to have a set and stable roof over his head.
He worked for a few years at Syntax's business, an online dating service that catered to "low-hanging fruit" as Syntax phrased it, aptly named Lowered Expectations.
Being a technologically-connected youth, he was also recruited to help with Syntax's side business of Private Investigation, being schooled on the basics of how to hack into accounts and PCs, so as to expose cheating spouses, overspending family members, drug dealing roommates and people who had images and videos of dubious legality. Turns out there isn't very stringent requirements for being a PI aside from being 18, passing a background check and having the money for a license. The real difficult part was for poor Syntax- getting the youth to focus on his computer lessons was easier said than done.
Silas, who elected to take on the handle of "Asylum" (chosen at random and based on a font name that 'sounded neat'), formed a brotherly bond with the other man. Thus, he was somewhat heartbroken when the other up and...disappeared one day. He never came home and no one seemed to know where he could have gone. So Asylum continued work and maintained the businesses as long as he could (had to pay rent somehow) but, unfortunately, Syntax had been the one with a head for numbers and organization and so before too long, Asylum was forced to close down.
About the time money was drying up and he was starting to worry about fighting the cat for food, he found himself recruited by White Hat. Much like Syntax's name, Asylum questioned nothing and simply accepted his circumstance, excited to start a new phase of his life.
Personality:
Sy is a chipper young man, seemingly unflappable in even some of the darkest circumstances and loyal to the core. He's personable, friendly and kind- whether he knows someone or not. Of course, this can come off as overwhelming at times, especially when paired with his generally poor sense of personal space.
Unfortunately, he can be very oblivious at times as well. And highly distractible. And excitable. This might sound charming and cute on paper but in action... it can be fairly annoying. In this case, being blunt is the best course of action- using euphemisms and sugar-coating things will cause the meaning to become lost on him.
Type of agent: Office. Logic would say his people skills would lead him to do well in the field but his lack of discipline and obliviousness could land him in dangerous circumstances (Syntax did most of the field work, with Asylum only periodically tagging along). He'd likely do best working from the office until he gains a little more control and experience... |
