I recently joined Sylestia, so where I am able to go is very limited. My Sylesti are dead, and when I try to go to Esior's Haven it takes me to the exploration mode even when I type in the url for the town. I cannot do anything for my pets now.

Now you should be able to.
There was a dynamic event involving Esior's Haven a little while ago! So you can't enter the town at that particular time. OuO
