Hi,

I'm new to sylestia but feel i've got the hang of this. However, i just can't quite figure out what the genetic testing kit is for. It seems to sell for a lot on the broker so i think it's probably a treasurable item so i don't want to waste it just for testing it out. i know it describes to item to reveal a sylesti's genetics but i don't know what that means. i thought the genetics of a sylesti was revealed when it matured at the bottom where the slots would turn from 'unknown' to 'none' or something. And the colours are revealed too. What other genetics are there to reveal? Sorry, this may be a really silly question but i really want to find out.

Absolutely lovin' sylestia, totally hooked!

Thanks!

Only visible genes are revealed when a pet become an adolescent. You should test them using genetic test kit to know if he/she has carried genes or not.
But don't buy the genetic testing kit in the trade broker. It doesn't worth it.
You'd better save 1000 diamonds and buy an exceptional genetic testing kit when Krin and Fai have discount items sale. Discount items sale usually happens at the beginning of every festival.
Exceptional genetic testing kit is basically an unlimited genetic testing kit, which means you can test all your pets without worrying your genetic testing kits will run out.

There are also some great people who are willing to test your pets for free on the "Breeding Dicussion" forum.

I notice on the genetics (in the search for pets) some have blue genes (I'm assuming these are visible markings) but what is the difference between the green markings and the purple markings? Are the green carrieds? If so what are the purple ones? I've seen several pets that have more than 1 or 2 purple markings.
and, yes, I'm a newbie too.

Black color indicates no trait.
Green color indicates carried.
Blue color indicates visible with only one trait.
Purple color indicates there are 2 different traits; one is carried while the other one is visible.
But knowing that isn't really important IMO.
Just remember the first alphabet is visible trait and the latter alphabet is carried trait.
For example:
NN means the pet doesn't have visible trait and carried trait as well.
ND means the pet doesn't have visible trait but has carried D trait.
DD means the pet has visible D trait and carried D trait.
DE means the pet has visible D trait and carried E trait

You might be wondering how the traits passed to the offspring work then.
It basically works like punnett square.
Let's say you want to breed 2 pets. The male has AA trait and the female has BB trait.

The offspring's traits will always be AB because you only can cross A trait with B trait.
But let's say the male has AB trait and the female has CD trait.

Then the possible offspring's traits result will be like the above picture. There are 4 possible outcome; AC, BC, AD, and BD. It's arranged in alphabetical order so you can't get CA, or DB trait (N is the exception).
If you don't know how punnett square works, you might be wondering why there are no AB trait and CD trait. That's because they can't breed with themselves, don't they? Remember, AB is the male trait and CD is the female trait.

Ah, I don't really understand what I just wrote either. ;A;
I know how the breeding works but it's hard for me to explain it. TAT
But feel free to ask me again if you don't understand. :D
