Yop! It's that time of the year again! That time where one day people gather with family, stuff their faces and talk about being thankful....and then the next day they wake up at crazy times to stand in a line and risk being trampled, beat up, or shot over something as materialistic as an Xbox!
I've never really cared about Black Friday. I don't care about the deals and the discounts, and I especially am not willing to risk injury over a TV. I think last year a woman was trampled to death kinda sorta not really close to where I live. That's ridiculous!
This year, that dangerous holiday has spread back a day: Black Thursday. And I'm just really mad about it. Thursday is THANKSGIVING! A day that people are supposed to be spending with family! It really grinds my gears to see so many companies excitedly talking up how early and late they'll be open with super deals. Wal-mart has a commercial saying that you should shop for Black Thursdays deals and then just not leave because Black Friday.
Absolutely ridiculous! In every store that is open for these stupid Black Thursday deals, dozens of employees aren't with their families. Plus, all of the people who are okay with leaving dinner early to get a discount or two are LEAVING DINNER EARLY! I really hate this because it's just a ploy to get more money and it's taking people from their families. I mean, Even the Wal-mart near where I live had the decency to close on last Christmas. Family holidays are supposed to be spent with your family! Not in the check out line or behind the register.
I'm sorry I just really noticed this this year and it's really got me steamed.

I don't really celebrate Thanksgiving like others traditionally do.
My mom works at a hospital, and the hospital stops for no holiday, so her having a night shift (7pm-7am, which means she leaves at 6pm, which is when the family has dinner) on Thanksgiving isn't uncommon.
My dad happens to be on call (doctor), so whatever emergencies his patients have that they wanna call in, he answers. All week long, not just thanksgiving alone.
Even then, when we're together, it's kinda just a standard meal of rice and some meat. For Thanksgiving, it's honeybaked ham aha.
But we just kinda stay in the house, doing the standard sit-around-and-watch-Hallmark-movies sorta thing. (and the Thanksgiving Parade)
After doing this for like...many many years, on days that aren't Thanksgiving and holidays, I see how this day can kinda get lackluster and just like any other day.
orz so off topic
I appreciate that schools take offdays for Thanksgiving. I suppose this holiday is meant to bring together big families with more than 4-5 members in the family, instead of the 3-4 that comprise my family and is easy to bring around a table.
As for sales, ehh...
I don't feel it on my end. My parents know that shopping during this time is hectic. I didn't even know there are stores open on Thanksgiving.
My parents and I don't really want much either. So we don't shop much.
I know that on facebook, there are pictures going around that say to support Thanksgiving by not going out on that day. I was already gonna sleep in on Thanksgiving and have some food aha.
Otherwise, it's not something I take part in heavily enough to notice a difference in how it is celebrated.
Back on topic: Black Thursday.
...idk. I heard a radio ad saying that we should stay inside and celebrate with our families for Thanksgiving. (buy more food! says the ad)
So I personally don't see the problem.
If people are separated from their families for a cheap deal, that's their priorities. *n* People who have their values straight wouldn't have to think twice about this.

Seriously? How is this even a thing? I love my family, and even though they embarrass me sometimes, I would not trade them for anything. I love thanksgiving because of the time I get to spend with my small family. People should boycott Black Thursday.

It's funny you say this.. My family and I are totally outraged, as well. When the ads started up about having black Friday sales on Thursday, we all had to take a double-take. What a ridiculous thing! Over the few years that Black Friday has really been a thing, it has grown (obviously) so much. Each year the doors open earlier and earlier, more and more items are on sale, and more and more stores participate. It went from a hyped up surprise type of sale to "Here is everything on sale, get here and get it" type of thing. And now, and NOW it is on Thanksgiving?! Crazy what they are doing this year. Each year just gets worse and worse.
In past years, I always felt a bit badly for my favorite holiday, Halloween. Nothing closes for Halloween, and there are vastly ranging levels of enjoyment and maturity for the holiday. I always felt like the majority of people do not really take it seriously and typically I see Christmas commercials before October. But this year, I realized the holiday that really gets the short end of the stick is Thanksgiving. As soon as Halloween is over, Christmas trees go up, sales start, and everything is geared towards Christmas. Just happens to be a day off in between these other two holidays where you get to eat a lot. This year, I really felt for Thanksgiving.
Sorry about that tangent. But the Black Friday Thursday Thanksgiving thing really just pushed me over the edge. So uncool and not right. I hope it fizzles out by next year. I'm glad we're not the only ones thinking it's pretty messed up.
