Hey I'm a relative new player (12 days or so) so don't be mad if this is a dumb question.
I've made a nice black and yellow male starter-Aurleon and shortly after I've found a dirty yellow, purple greenish/blueish female Aurleon. The result in the test breeding doesn't give me much hope to put it mildly. If I'd dye that female a different colour with the lesser pet dye (are there better pet dyes, where do I find them and what's the difference exactly?) from the scale-shop does that alter the genes and make the offspring look better? Or is it just a coating that doesn't show in the gene pool at all?

Don't be afraid to ask questions. We all started out at a point where we didn't know anything in the game too. =)

Dyeing a pet will affect all the offspring produced after the dye. So the colour you dyed it with will become "fixed" in the pet, unless you dye it again.

There are greater pet dyes, that can be bought in the diamond shop, or on the trade broker from other players. It's not cheap. =P
The difference between the two is that dyes have a colour swing, so the colour you choose may/may not come out exactly the way you want it. (it's more obvious if you try to dye white or black). So greater dyes have less colour swings than lesser dyes, making them more accurate and valuable, thus more expensive.

Hope this helps. =)
