How does one create them (templates?)? What's the process? Are they limited to just the monthly items? Where on the site do I find this stuff?

I know that they cost diamonds and they probably have templates, from looking in the custom sales forums section, but I'm very lost on how it all works, and would like to see what I can do with them.

One more question: Even if the month has passed by, can you still order custom items from that month in later months? So, in October, could I create and order custom Shadow Stalkers? Could I order custom Shadow Stalkers which had already been approved during September? Or none at all?

The templates are made by the site artists (I assume) and you can download them from a link in the Monthly Items thread here: http://www.sylestia.com/forums/?thread=17067

Once you've done that, you can open the template file in pretty much any image editing program (things like Gimp, Photoshop, Paint tool Sai, and fireAlpaca) and go wild. The layers are set so you can only "color within the lines" so to speak, pretty much you can only color where it wants you to, the rest of the layer in invisible.

After you've got the image looking the way you want, you save it as a .PNG and upload it to an image hosting site (like photobucket or imgur) and send it to Krin. The thread I linked you to has more details.

As far as I know, it's only for the monthly items, and generally only back and/or held items, since the others are re-colorable.

there used to be a custom system where one could create an item for the site, that the artists would then transform into site worthy stuff. but that was closed down due to lack of interest.

as for monthly customs you can get the templates for the items that can be customized from the first post of the monthlies thread for each month, here.

One more question: If you order a second batch of the custom items, do you pay only 100 each or do you need to add the item's value to the first one again?

just the 100D for a copy.

It's only 100 each, no extra fee.

After the month has ended, you can not place new custom orders, but you can order copies of customs you have already made.
