what are the scales and how are they earned

Scales are a type of currency to be spent in the scale shop, you can get them by nurturing pets. To nurture pets (only hatchlings and eggs) you click on them and click on the solution to whatever problem the hatchling or eggling has. For examply, if a hatchling is slow, you select "race with it". You get one scale for each nurture and if you're really lucky you may get an essence. :)
