Is it ok to ping people that are relevant to a thread even if they have not requested it?

I'm asking because I was thinking of offering free wheel pet testing to those who haven't tested their wheel pets. A lot of players don't even know they need to be tested now and sending out loads of PMs (what I've been periodically doing) to let them know is a bit of a pain...

As someone who pings a lot, I typically ping whenever I'm writing a message to a specific player, such as this message. =)

Same would apply to a group of specific players.

I think the line can be crossed if you ping the same player/players too often or ping them about messages they don't really care for - and especially if they ask to not be pinged.
