So I love using the who's online feature to quickly and easily contact my friends... but now there seems to be a glitch or bug with it that started the other night. Now I will click to chat with a friend and the chat box does not pop up. It shows in the bar at the bottom like it has been minimized however, I can not get it to fully open. If I want to chat to a friend through this tool I have to click friend "A" to bring up the minimized box. Then I have to select friend "B" who I would like to message and it will pop up over friend "A's" box. Friend B's name will show at the top and Friend A's at the bottom mean while the minimized bar will show up. Friend A, Friend A. One will show no status of friend A being online, away, offline. The second will show their status meanwhile I will be chatting with Friend B according to the Top of the chat box. I hope this isn't too confusing I can provide screenshots granted my friends provide me permission since not everyone likes their name used. Can someone please help me with this?

I don't quite fully understand the issue, but I do know that there are lots of issues with our Comet Chat service. Some of these can be solved by clearing your browser data, updating your browser, or trying a different browser (preferably Chrome or Firefox).

Other than that, there isn't much we can do. Comet Chat's a third party software we installed into our Site and we can't really do anything about it in terms of bugs.

Someday though, we will be using our own chat so there won't be anymore issues with Comet Chat.

I have tried cleaning my Firefox and my Internet explorer also updated all plugins like Java, Adobe Shock Wave and any others that were out of date and am still having this issue. I currently can rarely see my friends list to know if anyone is on so I can send them a message using the social feature. I will try clearing the data again and see if that fixes it.

It also shows up at the bottom of the screen on my desktop ( just sent in a screenshot), it is unwelcome and I want it gone. I despise chatrooms...why on earth would i want a toolbar that connects to people that yap like small terriers and say nothing of substance?

The tool bar doesn't show on my list of toolbars for the browser and that means I can't uninstall it. It is an UNAUTHORIZED PROGRAM and it needs to go. I refuse to tolerate programs that I do not personally approve.

NOW. And I mean, RIGHT NOW.

Third party? Well...thank you, I know what to do with that. I'm about to get rid of it, once and a for all...Windows has this neat little item called a HOST FILE in the System32 folder, in drivers, in a folder called ETC.

I'm about to use mine to force the chat to ping it's own computers and destroy it's ability to see mine. Thank you for that little tidbit. Third party also means it's got it's own website and that means I can turn off comet chat's permissions on the page info page and stop it at the source.

In sequence, open

C:
WINDOWS
System32
Drivers
ETC

Open Hosts in wordpad and under all the explanations behind the #s, add this:

127.0.0.0 www.cometchat.com ci- www.cometchat.com

and this

127.0.0.0 static.cometchat.com ci- www.cometchat.com

and this

127.0.0.0 toolbar.cometchat.com ci- www.cometchat.com

Each entry should be on a seperate line. Then save and restart your browser. This is a security measure that is built into all Windows operating systems, this isn't an adjustment to the browser, no...this a command to the OS to stop unwanted, unauthorized programs from specific sites from accessing your computer OR the browser. Regardless if a website is using it, it still can't access YOU.

That gives desktop and laptop users this neat little thing called THE RIGHT TO REFUSE TO USE OTHER PEOPLE'S THIRD PARTY, UNAUTHORIZED SOFTWARE.

What I don't get is why you people thought you had the right to use something that players couldn't refuse to use to start with. That's just wrong.

You can also mostly hide the bar by pressing the double down-pointing arrow on the right-hand side of the chat toolbar. it makes it pretty much unnoticeable, and it won't reopen unless you press the tiny speech bubble that will then sit in the very bottom right corner. I understand your annoyance with the bar. I didn't like it when I first started. I hid it this way and was never annoyed by it again. And I was able to easily get the chat back when I did want to join the conversation. Anyway, just another idea that doesn't involve a lot of work-around to do.

Well, if you're aging things up in the Hatchery, you close it, go to the next baby's egg to hatch it and guess what's there again? If it would STAY CLOSED when you close it that would imply we have a choice not t use it.

The fact that it opens up on every page you open implies they're insisting that you use it whether you want to or not.

But I've fixed other invasive third party programing on my computer and on my OS and I used the same methods to fix this.

I went to their website, right clicked, opened PAGE INFO and then, under the media tab I removed their ability to show me static images, under the Permissions tab, I removed permissions with a big fat NO from the top of the page to the bottom of it.

Under the security tab, I wrote down all the cookie names and the removed the lot. I'm considering reporting it as a virus site, considering the way it tries to force itself on you.

IF I keep hearing of more glitching with it, I probably will, even though I'm never going to see it again...which is the point of using the host file to get rid of unwanted sites AND their software.

As an added failsafe, I'm going to use the page source to remove cometchat's areas and then use greasemonkey to make certain sure that the pages I get don't have it.

Oh, and one more thing...open your java console and delete the temp folder there...it doesn't dump with the rest of your caches, you have to do it separately. This will remove running applets you might not know are running...and last but not least, for firefox users, Ad Block Plus is your friend. Using add filter you can drop more than just spam into be blocked...and it will be blocked.

Like, say, www.cometchat.com all the pages that originate from it WILL be blocked.

First off, Comet Chat is not a program - it's not running on your computer. It's not being installed or anything else. It's running from our Site and loads as any other content from our pages.

If you actually use comet chat, there are some features that connect to comet chat's servers to obtain data, such as the mini games. However, everything else runs from our server.

Additionally, Sylestia is not designed for mobile devices. While we do our best to make it friendly for mobile devices, we design the website around desktops. This unfortunately can cause some features to be harder to use on mobile devices than on desktops.

Furthermore, nobody is forcing anyone to use or not to use the service. It's integrated into our website to allow players the ability to chat with each other privately or in a chat room. In total, over a million messages have been sent with this service - so I wouldn't exactly call it unwanted.

For those who do not wish to use the service, it's very simple. One, you can toggle your status as offline and nobody will be able to see if you're on the site or not. Or two, you can simply click the far right button (looks like 2 arrows) and disable it altogether. If it continues to pop up each time you load a page, something is wrong with your device's caching and is not saving properly when you disable cometchat.

Lastly, to say those who use the chat are people who don't know to shut up or are yappers is quite insulting and I'd like to ask you to stop. Sylestia's community is the best out of any site that I've been a part of and myself and Faiona do everything we can to keep it that way. And I'm sorry that you don't see it as we do.

Additionally, the chat is used on a daily basis where players help each other as well as for friendly chatting. Players also use the private messaging aspect of the service to send messages to each other all day long. It is a very useful tool that will remain on Sylestia until we replace it with our own chat service. Until then, the positives of the service far outweigh the negatives.

Too late. I know how to bar third party programs and I dunno if you've ever read the the Bill of Rights, but I have a right to express my opinions. So, you can make the best of a bad situation with the chat if you want, but for me and my machine Cometchat is LOCKED OUT. Nor will I allow it to return.

Gee, just adding the use of it or not as an optional preference, instead of a thing that turned out to be a problem for people that are NOT chatterboxes, could have prevented the whole conversation. Well, fancy that. Personal CHOICE is a good thing.

Also the service wasn't an issue, getting rid of the unwanted TOOLBAR was the issue. I did finally get rid of that too.
