They're engaged, Rai is an emperor and he was offered a treaty by Taiyuan's race that also gave him a 'wife'. Well problem is Taiyuan's race doesn't gender specify children at all and he picked a his future wife and wound up with a male. (not that it matters to him though as he has three other wives and two of them are female and one also male)
