Its an old game that I will always love in my life and never got bored of when growing up. uwu

How old do you say?

Well, the game was made for the PS1. Yeah, that old! I had the game and would play the heck out of it in my childhood. (And my early to mid teen years as well!) But eventually the game got too scratched up and my brother lost it and I couldn't find another copy of the game.

So I noticed people talking about games here and I was just curious to know if anyone has ever hear/played it.

For those of you who don't know it. Monster Rancher 2 was a game where you had gotten out of some kind of academy and you were partnered up with a young girl. You lived on a ranch with her and she would tell you if your monster was happy, tired, energetic, playful or hungry. Which helped too because, the more your monster liked you, the higher the chance it would want to go out and play with you. And the games varied for the specie of monster. There were even cards that held the basic information of each monster you got throughout the game.

Now how you got these monsters could be obtained in three different ways. There was a store where you could buy the common ones. (Usually being a Mocchi, Zuum, Suzeo or Gaboo.)

There was also an alter that you could go to to generate a monster. But how it worked was that the PS1 would read a disk and, based off of the information it got, would create a monster. The most common, and one of my favorites, that I would get would be the Tiger, Worm or Hare.

Lastly, you could combine monsters and create a new one depending on the stats of them. You could even throw in an item to try and boost your chances of getting an even more rare type of monster!

Unfortunately, some of the rare monsters you couldn't control yet if you weren't a high enough rank. Which you could get by training and sending your monster into tournaments. You could watch these tournaments and even give your pet directions on how to fight (which I often did.) It was one of the main ways to not only boost the stats of your monster, but to make money too.

There were sometimes events that could take your monster out on a journey to a new land and, as it explored, it would sometimes find items. Of course, when it came home it would be exhausted. Which I usually gave them a week or two of rest before continuing their training. On top of that, some events would even allow you to find new monsters that you could raise! (I had actually gotten a Phoenix and a Mock from these events!)

Now with the training, there were two ways to do this. You could train them at home or send them off for a month to train. Each area focused more on certain stats. Of course, sending your pet out was both pricey and a little bit dangerous. Since sometimes they could get hurt up to the point where they needed to be sent to the hospital.

Which brings up the last part of the game and the saddest. Unlike Pokemon or most games with creatures. Your monsters could actually die. Usually from old age. You could retire them by freezing them and combining them with another monster to create a new one or just leave them there. I always hated when my monster died, because I would be so attached to them. But there was a nice part where you could build a memorial and even upgrade it to look better as time went on.

Anyways, that's pretty much the entire game in a nutshell. I hope it wasn't too much of a read for you guys! ><;;

But I'm hoping that someone here has heard or played the game. Because that would just be so awesome! ;w; That game was my childhood and will always remain my top favorite game.

I played the DS version of Monster Rancher! I liked the game, though the only thing I didn't like from the game is your monster grow old and die (I LOVE MY BABIES DX) or you can retire him and assign him as "coach".

Hooray! I'm not the only one! ;w;

I didn't know they had a DS version of the game! XD I'd better get looking for that then!

And yeah, I wasn't too happy with it either. But I guess it was one of the things that made the game seem a bit more realistic. Along with when they get sent to the hospital as well.

Yep there is! I did get used to the game mechanics after awhile though, but I made sure I didn't grind my monster too much on useless stats! I'll be just wasting their poor short life... OnO

My favorite monster type is Shadow Mages, is there any Shadow Mages on Monster Rancher 2?

Shadow Mage..? Hm...I don't think there are. But I think, over the years, they added new ones that weren't in the older game <XD
