How do you go on missions? Ive looked through the forums and saw that nobody has really stated how to go on them but have kinda explained what they are. Can someone help please?

If you'd like to go on a mission, all you need to do is go to Esior's Haven, then click on Town Barracks. There should be some missions for you to do there! The lowest level missions do still take an hour to complete however, so I would either send a Sylesti that isn't in your party on the mission or find something to do until the mission is over.
