I saw the new pet post, but other than that I don't really see anything ABOUT it...

No, not yet.

The only things available atm are the new species, new mutations, and new genes.

We are working on getting the actual "event" stuff available ASAP. Once it's available, we'll make an announcement post summarizing what's available.

Faiona will also be posting some Forum Games later today for the week.
