To notify people of a message in the forums, either reply to their message with the '@' button or type their username in the 'ping users' box. Some general tips are to get more party slots early, and start sending pets on missions for reliable gold income.
Eventually element setups and gearing gets fairly specific if you want to give the harder battle content a go.

The option is in first two towns, at the barracks. There's a limit to how many you can do at once (which can be extended at the sylesti plaza), but at the moment you'll be more limited by what pets you have. It's a good long term gold income once you can do the higher difficulty missions - on an extra good success you get double the listed reward.
