Wasn't sure if asking questions in breeding forum was ok, so asking here

Is there a thread about breeding themes? I have some very basic ones and I'm wondering if it's possible to breed the plain ones into their fancier looks with more mutations and such, or if that is not possible with their genes.

with sylesti, all traits pass on in mendelian fashion, punnett squares.

All themes have a minimum of 2tp (1 vis or two carries); if you can't see any traits in the genetics section, the most likely reason is the pet hasn't been genetically tested. Many people offer free gene testing services in the Groups, Guilds, Clubs, and Services subforum for those who don't have the exceptional test kit)

An example, if you have a theme that say, has two carried traits, and cross it to a 6v, then the offspring of those two could be 2v4c or 6c

If you bred two 2c pets, what the offspring would be would vary based on which trait slots the parents have
crossing two pets both with g1c and g2c, you might get 0v0c, or 2v, or 1v1c, or 1 or 2c for instance
crossing a pet that's G1c+g2c with a pet that's m1c+m2c, you couldn't get any vis, but you could potentially get a 4c

Oh no way that's so helpful!! I wish the Punnett squares were a more visible chart with actual squares, but I understand the concept! Thank you!!

our guide here (post 10) has a more in-depth breakdown, and a link to this square we made:

Hey mega apologies for the ping few days later. While reading your helpful post I had a question with the purple hidden carry traits that can occur. Obviously the first letter is the dominate trait that is visible, and the second letter is carried. But how do you tell what gene/trait it's carrying? In your female example it's said that it's carrying the "clownfish" trait, but how can you tell it was the clownfish? Does it tell you in testing?

And also, does the letter help determine what trait it is? Because I am merely assuming that specific letters represent a trait. So would clownfish be "R" and another example, henna, be "O"

Hopefully this makes sense, thanks for your patience.

each trait correlates with a specific letter in that trait slot- you can check in the generator to see what's what!

so, yeah, when you have, say, a sylvorpa with g1 AB, that's vis g1 (A) blackcap jawfish, over the more recessive hidden g1 (B) majestic
and, yes, vorp g1 R is clownfish and g1 O is henna

from here (post 5)

"A completely unattended (100% unnurtured) bred egg would take the following amounts of time

Eggling stage lasts 3 days/ 72 hours (locked at 72 maturity hours until hatched, autohatch after 24h form first reaching 72h, interim hours added back after hatching) (starts: 0h if Bred or Bought, random mh if found while exploring)
Hatchling lasts 6d / 144 h (starts: 72h)"

more detail on aging anf what effects nurturing has in the post itself
