the strongest sylesti would be Supermaxes (Base stats 2000 hp /200 mana/ 100[str/int/dex/agi] with additonal lost grove +stats bred into their line.
They can be any species, just a question of someone having bred ones you would like to use
(examples of supermax: one of our IS vorps, a ferrikki)
strongest when attacks have been fully ranked and equipped with the best gear they can equip (eg, one of our main party who isn't even max net alone supermax, but who does have all her attacks at rank5 and is fully equipped with Primordial +5 equipment, which is the best a lv60+ pet can have)
what elements are best depends on the situation, player preference
[water/earth] / light / [fire/air] and water/2x attacker are common late-game teams
board teams are often light/fire/fire or triple fire

As for making money, Missions are your best friend :D But there are some other ways as well, that one is just the easiest, here is a guide explaining more though!

Building on what Scathreoite mentioned, a good setup that'll carry you a long way is Water (or Earth)/Wind/Light. I'd personally recommend Water, as Earth requires timing that can be tricky to get the hang of.
I'd also recommend unlocking all three team slots as soon as possible. Battles get much easier once you have 3 pets in your party.

I would like to further expand on the board teams mentioned, it helps to cap the pets at level 30 by using a philter of unlearning and then equipping them with the Runic Elven armors/relics from the Town Hall in Sanctuary of Saerielle. Gear can make a huge difference. If you can get your hands on some max/super max pets for your board teams, that helps too. I also recommend doing that at Tier 1.

actually, with the introduction of the difficulty settings, this isn't quite so true anymore- now, a fully ranked+primordial equipped lv75 team vs tier1 difficulty is probably a better option, though obviously lv30 unranked teams remain the far easier option for anyone who quite reasonably doesn't have pets of a multitude of species ranked

I was going for the more immediate team option as it takes a good bit of time to hit level 75 and rank, so the fest would be over by then.
