You heave yourself up one last massive stone before you decide that it is time for a break; you've been scaling this mountain all day. Flopping down on the rock, you pull out a canteen, take a few mouthfuls for yourself, and let your sylesti companion have a little as well. You fan yourself with your hand, panting, You'd been so excited when you set out - these mountains hadn't been explored before, as far as you knew, and there could be enormous discoveries hidden there! The very idea makes you excited and eager to continue. You make to stand up, but something in the dust catches your eye - a little book, bound in worn leather. It seems to have been there for a long time. You pick it up and flip to the first page.
"The peoples of the Redstone Mountains are a reclusive group. Collecting information has been difficult, but I can't quit now - not when it's taken so long to earn their trust! I suspect that the Queen of the Varaiks has become suspicious of my true intent here. I must move quickly if I am to be successful and escape with my life."
Intrigued, you turn the page.
"I'll take this last opportunity to archive everything I've learned, about every species I've encountered or heard about. When I'm through, I'll throw this from the Aerie, so that if I fail to make it out of here alive, my findings can still perhaps be spread, and my sacrifice not be lost."
On the page opposite, you find a table of contents:

You turn the page to the one indicated for the xxx people.
"There are two main civilizations on these mountains - the xxx and the Colony. I've heard whispers of a small, isolated human settlement, but whether or not it exists is unclear to me."
"I have gathered much information pertaining to these regal and fierce predators. I will describe it here in detail."
There appears to be another table of contents:

To your surprise and dismay, there seem to be some entries that have been scorched out of the book! You turn to their pages and they aren't present; someone has torn them out. How unfortunate.

The next page is topped by a rough sketch of a humanoid creature, with slit pupils, pointed teeth, long ears, and horns. There's a caption -
The average Varaik.
Beneath this are several lines of text, describing these "Varaik" in detail. Periodic images accompany the text.
The xxx are a semi draconic species of humanoids. They all have horns, all have pointed teeth, all have wings, and all have tails. Their horns can be any number of shapes, sizes, and colors, and these seem to have no bearing on their social standings within their own culture. Their tails can have any markings, as far as I have seen. Whether or not they bear any true relation to dragons remains to be deduced.
They are exclusively carnivorous. The ingestion of anything other than meat or water- medicinal herbs included - make them violently ill and may result in death. This said, there is not much that their kind can do t ward against disease. I haven't been able to confirm this yet, but I theorize that their immune systems are much stronger than any human's to compensate for this.
I have not been able to learn anything involving their reproduction. They are a very tight-lipped bunch, and I am an outsider in their home. I very much doubt that I'll be able to learn anything of this nature before I must leave.
This said, they are also a very intelligent culture, though where they focus this is a touch strange. More on that later.
They do prefer to go clothed, when not in full or partial armor. They seem to tend towards leather or finely woven cloth, worn lightly to cover themselves. As mentioned, however, they much prefer wearing armor. They have different sets of armor for different occasions.

You turn the page again, completely engrossed in your readings. This page is topped by a tidy scrawl, reading Mythology. A quick scan reveals that this page is missing the usual messy sketches of previous pages, containing instead what appear to be near photographic depictions of... dragons. Some appear much friendlier than others.
The xxx worship a pantheon of six gods: five to represent every corner of their ethics system, and one to rule over all of them. Included below are depictions of them (stolen from the temples) and their names.
From left to right: Resh'vyr, the God of Gods; Khel Varr, God of Honorable Combat and Fierceness in Battle; Nervay'vara, Goddess of Temptation and Vice; _____, Goddess of Jealousy and Wrath; _____, The Queen's Stone; and _____ the God of Virtue.
These fall under six rough categories:
Chaotic Good ([insert god of virtue]), Chaotic Neutral (Resh'vyr); Chaoric Evil (Nervay'vara); Lawful Good ([queen's rock]); Lawful Neutral ([honorable combat]); and Lawful Evil ([jealousy and wrath])

"The current Queen of the Varaikyl goes by the name of [insert name]. She has lead her people to more military victories than any before her with the exception of the First Queen, and has given the Varaikyl an excellent advantage over the nomadic Colony. She is most commonly rendered holding a golden lantern, to represent the authority that the gods have given her to rule."
"The ancient hero Isakyl n'yeth Viskra was the first and only of the Viskra, or those chosen by the gods to aid the Queen, and thus the entirety of the Varaik, at any cost. The legends tell of him sweeping into battle and massacring the enemy with two broad strokes of his flaming blades. He is most commonly depicted dressed in ornate armor, a similar design to the Queen's, made of silver and gold."
"The only avatar of the Gods ever recorded - [justice & crap guy] was the god present to elect Isakyl as Viskra."
