The quickest way would probably be to buy either!

For pets you can check out the pet sale forum section, or simply use the so-called Advanced Search under Social to find pets for sale, just choose "yes" for the Sale option. You can also search for specific species and traits, even prices!

Another option would be to breed your existing pets with others, again under Advanced Search you can look fot pets to breed with.

Additionally, you can also tame wild Sylesties with traps.

As for items, depending on what you are looking for, you can check the Trade Broker under the Trade tab.

You can also send your Sylesties on missions, if they succeed, they bring you satchels out of which you can get either gold or items.

You can also always check out the areas of the World Map, in dungeons and fights you may randomly find items, and you can check the shops of the cities!
