Where do you get tokens? Are they only used on avatar items?

it depends what kind of tokens you mean?
There's 'Tokens', as in the generic term for the four festival currencies and used for all sorts of fest stuff (but which is only usable for the period of the one festival, and is not usable the next year for the same fest)
There's also Peerless Avatar Tokens, which are obtained primarily as prizes from official forum games during festivals and for completing all festival tasks (and which are usable in the avatar shop at any time)
