There is a prison that resides in the middle of nowhere. It does not appear to be a prison, as all there seems to be are a couple of giant statues and what looks like an entrance. This prison was built because a few years ago, an event that was dubbed the Summer of Slaughter occurred. Gangs ran wild, the streets practically ran red, and crime in the area rose immensely.

Since then, distrust of criminals has become huge in the public eye. Personal stories of families being torn apart, the lack of sympathy by judges and juries, and the threat of being sent to Furnace have only fuelled the movement. There was controversy over the opening of Furnace by human rights activists, but the facts of the crimes and the public's general opinion eventually shut down their stance.

Even though the Summer of Slaughter has been blamed on gangs going too far, it has not been made clear why and how youth gangs and murders rose so quickly that summer.

Because of the new laws, this system let many children fall to extreme consequences. It has gotten so bad that it doesn't matter if you were in a gang. Anything as simple as stealing or even being accused of a crime you didn't commit could give you a one-way ticket to Furnace.

Name:
Averey Clayton
Age:
Twenty-seven
Gender:
Male
Sexuality:
Pansexual
Pronouns:
He/him
Personality:
He jokes around a lot. Averey doesn't get his feelings hurt easily, and he's very impulsive. He hardly ever thinks before he speaks or acts. A possible downside to this is that he hardly takes anything seriously and is currently in hell. Or the equivalent of it. Anyways, he's pretty friendly to the majority of people. He hardly ever opens up to people about personal things, such as feelings and things like that. He acts as if he's invincible, although he knows he's definitely not.
Appearance:
Averey has tanned skin and a crooked smile. His hair is always a mess, and because there are technically no razors in Furnace, he also is unshaven.
Crime Committed:
He's committed multiple crimes, but the one he got caught for was stealing. His family wasn't exactly well off financially, so he did what he could to provide.
Crush?:
Other: Some people call him Av or Clay.

I'm betting you've seen some prison films or watched cop shows where the bad guys get sent to jail. You know what they look like: miles of fences topped with razor wire so sharp it hurts just to look at it; sprawling grounds watched over at all times by million-watt spotlights and towers with guns; lifeless buildings that rise up from the ground like great grey tombstones; tiny windows from which ghostly faces stare at an outside world they can no longer know.

Not Furnace.

The prison bus took the newly convicted people straight there. Most people were as pale as church candles and cowering back in their seats as if somehow they could avoid arriving at their inevitable destination. All the while, police guards shook their shotguns at the prisoners and jeered, asking them if they'd ever seen Furnace before, if they knew what it looked like, and if they had any idea of the horrors that lay ahead.

Averey knew. He had seen Furnace on TV just like everybody else. After that summer, when so many kids had turned to murder, they made sure that everyone in the country got a good look at the prison. They thought it would make kids too scared to break the law, too scared to carry knives and to cut people up for just looking at them the wrong way, too scared to take a human life. Looks like they hadn't been too successful.

There had been protesters, of course, the human rights supporters who claimed that locking a child, or any human being away for life was wrong, especially if they had only committed misdemeanors. But you can only argue with the truth for so long, and that summer when the gangs ran wild, and the streets ran red, everything changed. Even in the eyes of the liberals, they weren't kids anymore; they were killers.

All of them.

Averey used to always think that the waiting was the worst part, but when the bus, and all the people on it, rounded a corner and Furnace finally came into sight, he knew he'd rather have stayed on that bus for eternity than get any closer to the monstrosity ahead.

It was just like on the news: a towering sculpture of dark stone bent and scarred like it had been burned into existence. The Black Fort, the way in. The windowless building stretched upward, its body merging with a crooked spire that resembled a finger beckoning them forward. Smoke rose from a chimney hidden behind the building, a cloud of poisoned breath waiting to engulf them. All in all, it looked more like something from Mordor than a modern prison.

//nice oc, is that the guy from true blood or guy from American pie?

Raven sat shivering in her seat her grey eyes were downcast looking at her shackled feet the chains were heavy and cold on her ankles only further proving that her life even if it was empty is now over she now spend the rest of her life or close enough to it locked away in a cage with a terrifying roommate who'd probably kill her if she coughed to loudly. Raven was a good kid she really was but the government threw orphaned children into the streets where few were able land a job and expected them to survive alone in this world without help and then attack them when they couldn't it wasn't fair. Raven looked over at the woman sitting next to her a terrifying looking woman with long black and red hair and a scar over her eye and gang symbol tattooed aross her arms she looked like if Harley quinzel joined a street gang. The woman and raven looked at eachhother "what are you looking at" she spat and was made Raven flinch and yelp by pretending to hit her and this interaction caused a guard to walk over and hit them both with the but of his gun.

Raven yelped at the pain and cluched at her temple aftwr the guard hit her and winced suddenly her eyes saw it furnace or as she knew it as hell a place even saten would be terrified of mafia, yakuza, serial killers and all in between went here and even yhe toughest man alive was scared of this place . Raven felt th3 bus suddenly go cold as eveyone else now laid eyes on their new home

(Uhhh not a clue, I saw him on the new Dukes of Hazzard [2005].)

As the bus continued to get closer, they could make out some of the details that the news crews had left out. Carved into the cold stone were vast sculptures designed to inspire fear in anybody who saw them--tortured statues, each five meters tall, showing prisoners on the gibbets, hanging from ropes, on guillotines, pleading to executioners, being dragged from loved ones, and, worst of all, a giant head on each corner impaled on a spike. The dead faces watched them, and if Averey didn't know better, he could have sworn their expressions were of pity, their sorrowful eyes wet from the gentle rain that fell.

"Doesn't look so bad," said one of the boys on the bus, his quivering voice betraying his true feelings.
"Well, that ain't the half of it, boyo," replied one of the guards, tapping his shotgun on the window. "That there is Furnace's better side. You know where you're going." He lowered his weapon, so it was pointing at the floor. "Down."

The guard was right, of course. The building ahead was only the entrance, the gateway to the fiery pits below, the mouth that led to the sprawling guts of Furnace, which lay hundreds of meters beneath the ground. They had built the prison inside the hole and plugged the only way out with a fortress. Anyone wanting to dig themself out of this mess only had a couple of miles of solid rock to get through before they were free. That's when it finally sank in. The thought of being underground for the rest of his life suddenly hit Averey like a hammer to the face. He sat forward in his seat and stared at the floor, desperately trying to think of something else, something good. But all he could see now were the stains of a hundred other prisoners who had thrown their guts up on the confronting reality of their fate.

//The actor is seann william scott who was in American pie XD

Raven whimpered she was going down? Down there just for stealing a bacon and sausage sandwich at a shop it seemed crazy "are we all going down? Surely only the murders and gangs go there the rest of us will go elsewhere right?" She asked hopeful being caged with serial killers and monsters seems crazy and also being in the same prison with man was alao crazy she was a young woman a perfect target for godness knows what monsters and Creeps "i want to go home" cried another voice and it seemed eveyone agreed they wanted to go home where it was safe and warm.

The woman by raven glanced at her "lets hope you're not stuck with a creep little girl they love fresh meat" she said whispering to the gothic woman who started silently crying as to not disturb the guards and risk getting attacked she had to excape she had no choice it was excape and risk death or spend the rest of her life in that place either way both had awful risks but it was worth it to be free

(I knew it was Seann William, but I haven't seen American Pie :P I know the song, though xD)

Everyone was herded off the bus like sheep. As soon as Averey was off the bus, the sensation of rain on his face perked him up a little. Well, it did until he remembered that this might be the last time he would ever stand in the rain. Most of the people on the bus were outside the main gate in a giant cage that gave off a sinister hum and made Averey's heart throb whenever he got too close to the bars. He didn't have to know much about physics to guess that it took a hell of an electrical charge to have that effect. The entrance to Furnace was suitably terrifying--two enormous black gates topped with a plinth marked with the word GUILTY.

As soon as the newbies were lined up, the gates swung open with a sound not unlike fingernails running down a blackboard, revealing a gray room with nothing except two black men leaning casually against the walls and a nasty-looking gun mounted on the ceiling. "Line up and take your prison uniforms," a man said, his voice sounding like continents shifting. "One each. Then go through that door for purging."

The white uniform all the newbies were given was branded with the Furnace symbol--three circles arranged in a triangle, a dot in the middle of each, and thin lines joining them. Averey followed the line through the door to find another room full of tiny cubicles.

"Get in, strip, and wash," came the booming voice behind them. Averey picked a door and left his new uniform on a shelf outside. There were directions on the wall, and he followed them, taking off his clothes and placing them into a chute where they vanished from sight. Shivering in the cold, he pressed a large red button in front of him and was instantly hit by a fist of freezing water. He doubled over, pressing himself against the wall to avoid the stream. But the cubicle was too small, and he had to endure it for what seemed like an eternity.

When the spray stopped, he followed the directions again and held his breath while a cloud of gas was pumped in. It stung his eyes and skin, and even after the directed thirty seconds when he took a gasping breath, the gas still flooded his lungs, making his chest feel like it was on fire.

He grabbed the uniform, put the new clothes on, and staggered out the door.
