Jasper peaked out from around a corner, he was coming out from a dark alley. He blinked his hazel eyes and took a small step, shaking a bit.

From behind him, his shadow friend, Abyss, came up. "Is it clear?" He asked, galaxy colored eyes blinking and going wide.

Jasper nodded to his odd friend, brown hair bouncing over his eyes. "Think so." He said, taking a few more steps forwarded out into the streets.

Few cars sputtered past, and fewer were the people that came along in the rundown town. A mother with a child, or a man on a jog. Nothing more.

Jasper grabbed his friends hand and took a dash over the black top, the shadow of pure black in tow.

Abyss lacked all color but his teeth of a smile and big eyes. He held on as he followed his friend, looking around in fright.

We have to get there, we have to. Jasper thought, scared out of his mind as he made it down to a small other alley. He tugged them in through, going to a back little store that seemed to sell bad things.

Abyss knew they weren't there to buy, they were there to travel. It was time to move again.

Jasper stopped in front of the little hole in the wall, taking a deep breath and fixing his black shirt.

Abyss put a hand on Jaspers shoulder before shifting to a human form, he was about his friends height and would've looked almost like a brother to him if he'd had color.

"Alright, in we go." Jasper said, clearly not liking having to go to this place. He pushed open the gray wooden door, the knob too rusty to touch or use now. He let them in, stale air with dust particles greeting them as always. At the back stood an old man behind a counter of run down tile. He had gray hair that ran down his shoulders and a plump figure. He looked tired as always, dark eyes looking to the two. "Eih, need meh port el once again, eih?" He said in a straggly voice before giving a raspy cackle.

Jasper held back a shudder, just nodded.

Abyss hid behind his friend, but growled softly. "Can I eat him this time?" He muttered.

Jasper just shook his head faintly with his reply. "No. "

Abyss hissed softly as Jasper thanked the man before leading them both to the back office.

The office was dark, and even harder to breath in than the first room. This one lacked the flickering store lights, so they had to feel their way to the back of the cold, concrete wall.

Jasper pressed both his hands to it now, Abyss clinging to his shirt behind him. He muttered a few strange words before the wall melted away to reveal purple light. It flooded the room and flashed once before showing a great field of purple grass and maroon trees on the other side. At the edge was a huge cliff.

Jasper pulled Abyss with him, as they dove in. They hit the grass, the portal closing behind them, as they laughed happily. Safe.

Abyss rolled a bit in the grass, enjoying the soft texture." Safe. Unfound."

Jasper chuckled, nodding. "Yeah, at least for the next two months."

"Yeah." Abyss sighed, scooting over and laying next to his friend as they stared up at the orange sky. "We could've hidden in my white room." He said.

"Then other shadows would've found you." Jasper pointed out.

"Nahhhh. I don't really feel there might be any others." He said in a dragged tone.

Jasper rolled his eyes. "Come on, Bissy. You know it could be true, might as well be safe."

"I know, I know." Abyss sighed, then rested his head on Jaspers chest. "But at least we could keep each other safe. Were best friends, forever."

Jasper put an arm around his friend, nodding. "Forever. Never to be broken apart."

"Never?" Abyss asked, looking up at the dragon hybrid.

Jasper nodded. "Never."

(Time skip)

It was night as the two awoke, the dark purple sky speckled with stars.

Abyss rolled off his friend, looking up as he blinked. "So pretty." He said, putting a hand over one eye as he remembered his first time seeing through a mirror, seeing his eyes for the first time.

Jasper wasn't awake just yet, wanting to sleep more as he nestled further into the long purple grass.

Abyss chuckled at his friend, he was so cute when he got fussy for sleep. He sat up, stretched, then leaned back on his hands. He wondered how long it would take for the dragons to hunt Jasper down, again. 'What if they come? What if they try to kill him again? I wont let them, I wont ever let them! Ill protect him, just as he does me.' He thought, gazing at his friend as he slept. 'Have to get him more clothes, but first Ill scavenge for food.' he thought to himself before standing.

He shook himself out, then began walking toward the trees. He could see silver fruit the shape of a star resting in their branches. He jumped up and swung up onto one, pulling himself up and picking a few.
"He ll like these, they're new." He said to himself.

He shapeshifted his left arm into a net, and began gathering fruit and placing it in his net. Once the long net was full, he sat there on the branch in the quiet dark under a silver colored moon.

Jasper took about ten minutes to wake up, then came over and climbed up besides Abyss. "Hi, Bissy." He yawned, rubbing one eye as he sat on the branch besides him.

Abyss smiled. "Hi, Jasp. Have a good sleep?"

Jasper nodded. "Yep." Jasper then leaned his head on Abysss shoulder, closing his eyes again.

"Sleepy still?" Abyss asked.

Jasper shrugged. "Eh. Why?"

"Because~, was wondering if you wanted something to eat." He said, offering one of the star fruits to him.

Jasper opened his eyes, and smiled. He took it. "Thanks, Bissy. You always know what I'll like." He said, then began to eat.

Abyss didn't need food, rather he needed magic. He gently stroked Jaspers head as the half breed ate.

Jasper didn't take long to eat the fruit, even though it was the size of a large apple. "Bissy~." Jasper said, dragging the word on.

Abyss smiled. "Yeah?"

He huffed, pouting as he rested his head against his friends shoulder." What should we do today?"

"You mean tonight, its night time remember?" He said, pointing at the purple sky.

Jasper sighed. "Yeahhhh..."

Abyss gave a soft laugh. "Well, we could..." He thought a moment. "Oh! We could go looking for new rocks. To add to the white room!"

"Nah. Can't we do something more... entertaining?" He said, nuzzling Abyss's neck.

"Well, we could go tease some Griffnars." He offered.

"Yeah!" Jasper said, throwing his arms up happily.

Abyss had to catch him before he fell off backwards off the tree branch. "Careful!"

He laughed. "Okay, okay!" He said, giving Abyss an innocent look.

Abyss couldn't help but smile. He let Jasper climb down before he himself climbed down as well. He used a shadow to open his white room, placing the fruit in it so that they wouldn't go bad. "Alrighty, where's the nest again?"

"This way, west!" Jasper grabbed his friends hand and rushed out into the field. He tugged him up into the air, wings sprouting from his back.

Abyss yelped, having to shift so he had two arms again and this time a pair of bat like wings. "Warn me next time!"

"Sorry." Jasper laughed, soaring up and twirling around.

Abyss smiled at his friend, following. He did a few loops, enjoying the cool night air that wrapped around them.

Jasper cruised on a smooth air current, not wanting to tire his wings.

Abyss flapped until he flew above his friend, waving happily. "Hi!" He said cheerfully.

Jasper chuckled, waving back. "You're cute like that."

Abyss laughed, shifting to a cat. "Now I'm cute!" He said, landing on his friends chest.

Jasper stroked the black cats back. "Yes, indeed. So soft, too."

Both boys laughed with one another.

Abyss shifted back to his human form, no wings, and laid on Jaspers' chest as he flew.

Jasper blushed just a little bit, but hugged him. "Comfy?"

"Very." He said contently, closing his eyes.

He glided in the air for a while with his friend laying on him.

They passed hills and vallies, and soon came across a mountain range that looked as black as coal.

"Just about there." Said Jasper as he looked and saw the black mountain range. "Can't wait, they'll all be sleeping."

Abyss nodded, sitting up on Jasper. "Yeah, could we use rocks?"

"Pebbles, we don't want to hurt any one." He said.

He nodded. "Good point." Biss said, shape shifting a pair of wings before flying on his own instead of on Jasper. He flipped around in the air happily, arms out wide.

Jasper chuckled, watching his friend.

The two soon made it to the cave they'd been looking for.

Jasper landed on the ledge in front of the cave opening. "Alright, we're here." He whispered.

Abyss swirled down and landed besides him. "Yay!"

"Shhh!"

He quieted his voice. "Yay."

The two walked in, silent as they went and picked up a few small stones.

Abyss walked forward into the darkness, then threw a rock in. There was a thump of it hitting something solid, and not stone.

Jasper didn't hear the usual ruffle of feathers, and suddenly ... it felt cold and empty in the room. "Abyss...I-" Suddenly a net was thrown over him and he was knocked out as he was pulled down.

Abyss looked around frantically in the dark for Jasper. "Jasper?!" And suddenly he as well was taken with a net, knocked out cold.

----------------

Abyss groaned, waking up in a pure white room. The color stung his eyes and he had to blink for his sight to adjust.
