For a long, long time, people assumed mythical creatures simply didn't exist. They're just something people back in the B.C. days made up when they were bored. If there were singing fish women leading sailors to their deaths, and winged horses jumping out of ladies' decapitated heads, surely there'd be evidence of it?

That is exactly what the mythosies have been relying on. Sirens pretending to be mute, hiding their tails with wheelchairs. Sphinxes hiding their lion half with long clothes and deliberately avoiding people. Kelpies simply refusing to shift to horse form.

But now, the mythosies have been discovered. Not only that, they're being hunted down. It's well-known that humans fear what they don't know- and these beings aren't something humans are knowledgeable on.

Characters-
Name- Mavaria
Species- Sphinx
Gender- Female
Personality- Friendly but slightly childish. Fairly mysterious and secretive, until she... isn't. Sometimes she's open as a book, other times she's more shut-off than a multi-billion dollar safe. Split-personality isn't the right word, but her secretiveness is a bit volatile. She adores reading and literature, especially poetry.
Backstory- According to herself, she's been around ever since legends of her kind has existed. All the other sphinxes, at least the ones she knows, are long-dead. She's hence a bit lonely and will gladly make new friends, especially ones where she can relentlessly ask them riddles.
Powers- She can learn any language, if given a few hours. This applies to unspoken languages, like sign language, and even computer languages like binary. She can also come up with riddles basically instantly, and when offered a deal, should she agree to it she is unable to break it.
Other- N/A

Name- Sage
Species- 9-tailed (highest-ranked) Kitsune
Gender- Male
Personality- He is an old and wise creature, and very difficult to agitate. He's seen the world age from generation to generation, simply from his secluded home in the mountains of Japan.
Appearance- A simple, mostly unseeming white fox with black tips at a glance. However, he has nine tails, with odd, cloudlike swirls on their tips.
Backstory- Sage was fascinated about the outside world. One day, he sought out one specific area that granted one single wish, by a giant mountain tree. His wish was also technically a curse. 'Immortality'. To him, it wasn't a curse, as he was very smart with his wish. He can still die of wounds, rarely of age, but the key thing is rebirth. If he dies, he will reach a higher state of the mortal plane.
Powers/abilities- He is extremely agile, and is very adept with the natural elements. He can only use one at a time, else he will exhaust himself. He can also change forms, called 'adapting' with his kind, which is utilized to hide his fox-ness.

The city is busy. Busier than normal. Holiday season always is- after thousands of years, that pattern is easy to recognize. Tourists are a common part of it- family visiting from other countries, groups of friends and families choosing to celebrate in a new place, and combinations of the first two.

So it makes no logical sense that one lady, a dark-skinned woman with long clothes, should seem so... odd. The way she's styled herself is fancy, but no more than normal- she's not even wearing any makeup. Her clothing is completely appropriate for the on-and-off flurries that have been going on. Her eyes are kinda odd, but they're natural- just simply rare.

There is no reason for her to stand out, and yet she does.

The old fox sighed, muttering to himself softly. "Another, eh?"

He got up, fixing up a spare pocket, his white hair being mildly "attacked" by spare leaves, and quietly followed, which, being a higher ranked kitsune, he excelled at stealth.

He also happened to have a cat. A calico, who he deemed as a familiar and kept with him for his thousands of years of life. That very cat sat on his shoulder, latched firmly on.

Much like any tourist, she's taking everything in with wide-eyes. The pale blue hue makes her almost appear blind, though she can most definitely see. She could be wearing contacts, but those have a certain look that her eyes are lacking. She's clearly here alone, not accompanying or talking to anyone.

He smiled at the joy and surprise in her eyes. He gestured to the cat to investigate, and the cat did as he requested. (Damn, I suck at long entries lmao)

She notices the cat, and she smiles with joy. She leans down and pets it, the tips of her black boots becoming visible underneath her long skirt. She soon proves herself to be a total cat-whisperer; she seems to instinctively know what spots the cat likes being pet, even how it likes being pet. She talks to the cat softly as she speaks, talking in a foreign language that sounds like it might be Egyptian.

He whistled, and the cat dashed back to him, and once he found her, gave a small bow.

"I apologize if she bothered you at all, madam," he said. His voice was silky but deep, a perfect match. "Hopefully she didn't, her curiosity knows no bounds." He rubbed underneath the cat's jaw, much to the feline's enjoyment.

"It's alright, I don't mind." She smiles politely. Her canines are longer than normal, though not especially so- they stick out very slightly. "She reminds me of my own cat, though mine is a tortiseshell."

Her accent definitely sounds Egyptian. But, the cadence with which she talks is not. She talks rythematically, as if reciting a poem out loud. It's a little odd-sounding, but not unpleasant.

He gave a nod. "I see. Do you perhaps have any other companions?" he asked, his curiosity peaked, which was... new.

(I like using big words so using an old character helps a lot lmao)
