She stares at it.

"Anybody else confused as to why there is a tube of cement in our way?!" She huffs, kicking it and wincing. "Ouchy..." She mumbles.

Grimalkin rolls his eyes. "Probably because it's the trod that will take us to the mortal world. And," he said to both of them, "I suggest we stop talking and keep moving. We are being followed. Remember, once we are through, we will not be able to return to the Nevernever this way." He gave Lin a long stare, not a good one. "Also, remember, human--you have been to the Nevernever. The glamour over your eyes is gone. Though other mortals will not see anything strange about you, you will see things a little...differently. So try not to overreact."

She nods.

She nods, shrugging as her wings twitch slightly.

They emerged from the drainage pipe to the sounds of car engines and street traffic. They were in a downtown area, with buildings looming over them on either side. A sidewalk extended over the drainage pipe; beyond that, rush hour traffic clogged the roads and people shuffled down the walkway, absorbed in their own small worlds. The air here was cold, and dirty slush clogged the sidewalks and drains. Grim half closed his eyes, peering around the town and the people rushing by them

She stares at it.

As he was thinking, a large figure in a tattered red hoddie lurched out of the crowd and came towards them, clutching a bottle in a sack. He looked like a homeless person. As he got close, he raised his head and a wrinkled, bearded face with fangs jutting crookedly from his jaw was visible. In the shadows of the hood, his eyes were yellow and slit like a cat's. "Pretty girls," the stranger growled, reaching out with claws. "You came from there, didn't you? Send me back, now. Send me back!"

She backs away from it nervously.

She swiftly steps in front of Lin, glaring at the man. "You're insane..."
