At her exclamation, I blinked a few times, somewhat confused.
"Horseback... fighting?" I repeated. Aren't we all supposed to be fighting on horseback at some point in our training? Perhaps she has some previous skill that means that she is allowed to skip ahead? It was not really my place to question - after all, it was the word of those above us, and neither did I particularly want to pry. Though I was certainly intrigued as to the selection process.

Walf sat down on the edge of a fountain, chewing on the meat. It had been a long trek from the mountains, and he didn't have a horse, or a dog. He counted his gold, frowning. He had enough for a dog, maybe an older and less strong one. However, if he purchased one, he wouldn't have enough for the rope and lumber.
It would be nice to have a companion..

"Unwise, correct?" Quinn snorted, then explained what she meant. "Only some from our squadron are to fight on horseback, which puts us at the disadvantage to the Kingdom of Rithiel."

"It's nice to finally have a friend that is not high class and forced upon me." I say rembering how to make my family look good I had to be friends with other high class people that I didn't like.

Walf stood up, stretching. He didn't desperate need the rope and lumber. A dog would be much more useful than a fence. "Now, where would I purchase a dog?.."

"Indeed... It makes very little sense..." Unless they do not trust the poorer trainees not to steal the horses that they have been given. For the first time since I had gotten here, I was beginning to question if everything that we were expecting was truly what we were going to get. And the disadvantage... if they are to train us to fight them, why are they not training us all at once? I supposed that my questions would be answered in the coming days.
When Draycil spoke, I turned my head to look at her. "You see... where I am from, talking to someone of higher class unless spoken to was unthinkable. Should anyone suddenly decide to speak up... Well, they would never be able to speak up again." I shuddered a little, uncomfortable with recalling the memories of that day. "We were told not to exist, except for when we were needed by those of higher classes. Not that I was ever in that situation."

"Wow the things I would do to them. That is terrible they are terrible. I fact who are these people one day I will show them a piece of my mind and they'll regret ever doing such a thing to people they are human too." I say rembering freeing some slaves a little while back and saying the same thing.

I shook my head. "Too many have tried - they have too much for them to be defeated. Besides... I hardly remember them." My lies were somewhat hidden, though I doubted that they would be convincing. I know their faces, from memory. How could I forget them after what they did to Mervyk? My eyes met Draycil's. But I cannot risk motivating her to go after them. They are powerful, both on their own, and with their masses of money. "They... didn't do much, they mostly ignored us."

"That doesn't mean they are allowed to do that." I say.

"The guards were corrupt. As long as the higher class had money, they could do what they wanted. They were the law, with only their morals holding them back. That's if they had morals, and considered anyone below them as more than resources to further their own gains." I rubbed my arm with one hand, my ears flattening. "There was one who was different, but she was shunned by the others, overwhelmed by their collective power. In the end..." I looked away. "I'm sorry, I would rather not speak of what has happened. My focus should be on the present."
