The Erlking gave a solemn nod, and Ash turned to face Lin, taking one of her hands and guiding the other to his shoulder. And then the music started. Ash stepped forward

She just does what he does.

Ash chuckled. "Stop thinking," he muttered, pulling her into a spin that ended with her against his chest. "The audience doesn't matter. The steps don't matter. Just close your eyes and listen to the music."

She closes her eyes.

Ash spun her a couple more times, his eyes bright. The music ceased and Ash pulled her into a final spin. She ended up pressed against him, his face inches from hers, his silver eyes bright and intense. Ash blinked and offered a tiny smile.

She smiles back.

A scream shattered the night, and the prince released her and stepped away, his face going into that blank mask once more. The scream came again, followed by a thunderous roar that rattled the tables and sent fine crystal goblets crashing to the floor. The bramble wall was shaking wildly as something large tore its way through.

She whips around to look.

Fey started shouting and pushing one another, and Oberon stood, his ringing voice calling for order. For just a moment, everyone froze.
