Its also warmer, which feels pleasant against their feathers. The cold is oddly uncomfortable for them, despite how thick their feathery pelts are.

Yeah. Its quite curious- everything about their biology points to them needing a cold, maybe even Arctic environment; the extremely thick pelts, the length of every feather, the weight of their bodies. And yet, being in that cold realm from before, whatever it was, had been as uncomfortable as a human standing about in 45- degree weather.
