The wyvern moves its head so it can see her

The boys were still waiting for the Thornguards, who approached slowly, as if they knew we werent going anywhere

She stares back at it. She honestly thinks its somewhat cute, and feels kinda bad for it. But, to be fair, this is the same girl who found a lethal fish-horse about to eat her as being cute, so her standards arent that high.

" Ash, let me take the scepter. " she said to him.

Good point. The lethal fish-horse who was still with Ethan. The wyvern began to try to get her off

He shot me a look over his shoulder. "What?"

" Let me take the scepter. I think I can get it to winter. "

She clings to it, trying not to do unnecessary harm. She can say with some certainty that this creature isnt following Rowan willingly.

Ash stared at her, his expression torn.

"Hey, Prince," Puck called over his shoulder, "uh, you can join in anytime, now. Whenever youre ready."

A shriek echoed over the valley, and a dark shape wheeled toward them on leathery wings. Rowan was coming back.

The Thornguards were almost upon them. "Be careful," he said. The cold burned like fire.

She winced a bit from the cold but nodded.

She keeps ahold of its leg, and starts climbing up it again.

The Thornguards charged with a roar. Ash spun toward them, blade flashing, as Puck gave a whooping battle cry and plunged into their midst.

The unicorn waited at the bottom of the hill, almost invisible in the mist, its horn more real than the rest of it. Even though the unicorn stood perfectly still, watching her, it was akin to walking up to a tiger that was tame and friendly, but still a tiger. It could either kneel and lay its head in my lap, or explode into violence and skewer her with that glimmering horn. Thankfully it did neither, standing motionless as a statue.
