"She's also a mother. She's extremely protective of her kits- hurting so much as a hair on them will make her angry enough to claw your face off."

He nods. He never knew that Pantherin was a mother. Bit that wasn't an excuse to kill, either

"It's also the reason for her increase in kills. She needs to kill more to care for her children, and once they're old enough to fend for themselves, the amount of deaths will likely decrease, as they'll be less needy once out of kithood."

"Decrease? Wouldn't they stay the same or increase, as there are more of them on the loose?"

She shakes her head. "Umberinfelidae (that's what Pantheris is, but there's very few of them so they're usually known just as 'Pantheris' species') are very needy as kits, but once they've surpassed toddler age they become able to survive much longer without food."

Elton nods. "Okay, but why can't they eat game I stead of humans?"

"There isn't enough game for them to sustain themselves on." She shrugs. "Especially since game is smaller in both size and population. If it was just Pantheris feeding, she could probably live on it, but she has kits that require almost twice as much food as she does."

"And she couldn't have gone to China or somewhere more populated?"

She shrugs. "Well, it is nice here. And she has patterns of hunting in this general area over the centuries, so the humans here must taste better or something."

"Yeah, I guess. Anything else crucial that I need to know? "
