In the revamped version, the gems will be separated from the base so that we can then do mutation-based gems that completely change them.
o.o I have wanted this for over a decade.

I really like the hatchlings, their tails and neck fluff have a lot of detail and texture to them. Will the adults get a few more lines to increase the fully look as well? They still seem a little understated compared to the hatchlings.

Yep. There will be a lot more details added w/ the actual lineart, shading, and highlights. These are just the sketches. =)
Hello, all! After reviewing everyone's feedback, we have made some changes to the Bulbori Revamp sketches. Here are the revised sketches:

If you'd like to look at each of them individually, click the following links:

No Changes to the Baby Male View the Baby Female
If you would to see a comparison of the old versus the new, here is a comparison (old sketches are in red lineart):

We will give everyone a few days to provide their feedback before we begin to work on the actual lineart. Thanks!
I much prefer the new female's ear gems, but I wonder: is the gem supposed to move with the ears? Because if so, her ear(s) would need to be a bit higher, so the gem aligns with the ears.
If her right ear was the same angle as the male's (more horizontal), and her left ear just a tad visible, I think it would 'anchor' the gems better. As they are now, they seem out of place.
The gems weren't really a focus of any of the sketches. All of them will have their gems on the final version. In the original Bulbori, the gems are attached to the base lineart. In the revamped version, the gems will be separated from the base so that we can then do mutation-based gems that completely change them.
We ended up adding the second ear to the Adult Female due to overwhelming player feedback. I think it actually does make her look even more adorable and balances her head. So she will have both ears. =)
As for the eyes, they were not drawn out in detail for the sketches. You can just consider them as placeholders. The real eyes will be very detailed.
A lot of other finer details will be smoothed out during the lineart phase or gets more detailed when shading and highlights are added.
I can't help but wonder how the separated gems will be implemented. Currently the Bulbori mutations are pretty well organized.
M1 mostly does tails (except you, Pixie Dust. You broke it XD)
M2 is all wings
M3 is all body or effect traits. (Pixie Dust, get over here with the others like you so I can get your sparkles with a fox tail! XD)
I worry that the flexibility with the gemstones will end up wrapped up unceremoniously with the M3, like "Ornate Armor gives it this shape" "Enchanted Flowers gives it that shape" "lovely hearts gives it that shape" and the gem shapes are all non-interchangeable and also can't be avoided with the M3.(as in, "I want a heart shaped gem but NOT the floating hearts" )
At the same time, I wouldn't want to be stuck in a situation where it's combined on a list with a different mutation type either, like "you can change the gems OR you can get wings for M2" or "you can change the gems OR you can get a tail for M1."
I realize it's still early stages, but I wonder if any thought had been given to this yet?
My own "best case hopes" would be for a base set of 7 gem options for "default" M3s like Ornate Armor, Ribbon Dancer, Enchanted Flower, and Lovely Hearts - the 7 being like the Rikki Elemental traits: 1 for unattuned, and then one gem shape each for earth/air/fire/etc. (So, Enchanted Flowers M3 with choice of fire, water, air, etc gem type, rather than "YOU MUST HAVE FLOWER GEM WITH YOUR ENCHANTED FLOWERS AND ORNATE ARMOR IS NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE THE FLOWER GEMS) And then maybe fancier gem shapes tied into the restricted sets, just to make those more special and avoid having to create restricted traits that fit all 7 other gem types - just let the restricted trait override to its own gem and ignore the element chosen.

Wow!!! They are so pretty!!! But you should be able to see both of the female's ears; otherwise, she looks a bit strange. Also, could the egglings be redesigned? The current ones look a bit boring... But either way I like the new designs *u*
