Hiiiii Kriiiin~ Thank you for all the hard work you do :D!
Makes me very curious as to what an avarage "day in the life of Krin" looks like--How many hours do you work a day? Is it set? What does a general work day look like for you? --please feel free to ignore that though, I know this is an AMA for the site and those questions are rather personal I'm just nosey, really feel free to ignore AHEM on to my actual questions~
1. Do you have any plans to retire any species? Or perhaps keep certain species strictly to certain seasons and only achievable during those seasons?
2. I really love the eggs for ryo's and grifs so is there any future plans to change or update the egg artwork for the more "common" species? Like having clearer distinctions from bulboris to sylvorpas? Something fun/simple like having bubbles surround sylvorpa eggs 'cause they're water based etc?
3. I'm often spending most my fest time gathering enough tokens to cook/plant/sculpt pets and I'm often finding myself just short of or lacking enough tokens. In the future would it be possible to also "sell" catalysts for tokens like it's possible to sell supplies, agents, etc for tokens? Or perhaps we can add a way to exchange for tokens/scales in the currency exchange? For example I would love to trade scales for tokens O:! Or would that not be a possibility?
4.I don't know if I just...don't know xD? But if this is a thing, someone please tell me ; u ; Would/is it possible to enable mass move from your hatchery to your stable or is one's only option to click on the pet in the hatchery and then select "move to stables"? --Hope I'm making sense here u ^ u'''
5. I've seen some pet sites have some permanent cosmetic changes to a pet, like for april fools, the artwork changes and the pet's artwork looks like a toddler drew it xD I know amulets of youth exists, but are there any plans in the future to add more? Like turning a pet into a static chibi image, maybe not a chibi with all it's traits so much as a set image, like "spring blossoms chibi kelpari" and it's just a static image where it doesn't take all traits into account, it's just a chibi kelp surrounded by cherry blossoms, if that makes sense?
6. Sort of a question add on to, what I believe Godith asked about possibly adding stats to an adult/ grown pet. I too would love this as I grew attached to my starter team, so I was wondering, what if you made us really work for it xD? Like give us a lot of hoops to go through so that it makes it more appealing to the average player to buy a max stat/super pet as apposed to going through the hassle? I know that might take some brain storming, but maybe it can be in the far, far--FAR off future xD?

Heh. There really is not typical day for me. My day to day schedule is all over. Fortunately, my career choice has given me the freedom to largely live and work without any real schedule - so it all works out in the end.
1. I don't have any plans to retire a species. I think that would be rather unfair to the players and would only have a big net negative on the game. Every single species is highly loved by specific groups of players. I would never want to do something that'd alienate them from the game and make their experience worse.
I would love to have some species be more variable based on location, time, weather, season, etc. But I just don't think we really have enough species to support that right now. So that's probably something I'll do more with for Themed Pets and specific Traits rather than just the entire species.
2. Yes. I want every species to have its own Eggling artwork. Originally, the concept was that you couldn't tell what species an Eggling was before it hatched. But then we added Fabled species and now, years later, I don't think that mechanic is really adding much to the game. So I think it'd be a better net positive to have every species have its own Eggling artwork. The only bottleneck against that is the time and money required to update all of the artwork.
3. It is always a constant battle to balance Event/Festival stuff. I need things to be rare enough to warrant demand for lots of playtime and Diamond Shop purchases, but not too rare where it's frustrating to play or players feel like they can't make sufficient progress. Before every single Event/Festival, I'm looking at the statistics from the previous year and updating everything to maintain that balance. Sometimes this involves making things more common, sometimes less common, making something more rewarding, etc. So I can't exactly say I'm going to make XYZ easier to obtain, but if it's any consolation, I am always doing my best to keep things as balanced as I can to keep you guys happy and to keep Sylestia properly funded.
4. It would be possible, but it's something I'd have to code largely from scratch. The only reason it doesn't exist is just simply because I haven't had the time to build it yet. It'd easily be a multi-week project just all on its own. Unfortunately, it just hasn't been high on my priority list for my 'dev' time as of yet. I would hope, at some point, I can get that implemented for you guys though.
5. Heh. I know that's asked pretty much every year as April 1st approaches. Unfortunately, I don't think we're really in any position for me to have the artists spend time on that or me spend the money on it. So I wouldn't hold your breath on something like that anytime soon.
6. That is my idea, yea. It would still be something fairly limited as I don't want it to replace breeding projects. But it will be something that a player could do on a limited basis to bring specific pets up to max-battling potential. But I wouldn't expect anything like this until the Exploration Revamp happens. I don't have any plans to add something like this before then.
7. I'm personally not really a big fan of doing that and I've seen other companies/games run into lots of drama and issues doing exactly that. I am also not entirely sure the laws and regulations around that. There are definitely various laws and labor regulations I have to be mindful of when deciding to work with other individuals - it also changes based on the country they may be based in.
Additionally, our artwork needs are pretty significant. The amount of Diamonds that would potentially be handed out per project would be A LOT. Lol. I'm not sure how I would feel about constantly adding so many Diamonds into the economy to one individual - not that they would potentially be nefarious or anything, but it'd just be a lot of Diamonds concentrated on a single account - way more than even our top spenders typically spend per Event/Festival. I feel like it easily could create some undesired effects on the economy even without any ill intentions.
The last part is that our artwork has to be done in very specific ways. There's a literal training process that we go through for every new artist when we add a new one. The process generally takes 6+ months before the artist is fully up to speed on our systems, style, scheduling, etc. That's a lot of my time that I have to devote to that process - and sometimes even our other current artist's time too that I also pay for. It's pretty much never just a, "Hey, here's a thing you need to do okay thanks good job." It's a very long, intricate, and expensive process. It's not something I'm willing to do unless I know I can financially support paying said artist for the long term and am confident that they can do the required job at the required quality and stick around for an extended period of time. That's the main reason why we haven't added any new artists in a long time and I don't plan on it until after the Exploration Revamp and things hopefully start picking back up. It's just a lot of extra overhead during a time where I'm trying to keep Sylestia's overhead as small as possible.

Hi Krin,
It's exciting to hear about the next direction and reset for Sylestia! I really like the idea of being able to upgrade your starter to keep up with the different areas. I always thought it was sad that I needed to replace my starter on my team just to keep up!
A question about the reset though. I remember a looong time ago, the old party system looked like it had room for 4-6 in the future. Is that still something you're considereing? (i.e. a "second string" of battle pets like some enemies do with the waves?)

My wish to ask more questions came true :3
Q1 - Follow up to my last question about hiding traits; would it instead be more feasible to hide pet images when nurturing?
Q2 - Is it possible to get exploration/battle hotkeys for Viridian Meadows, Umbra Forest & the Arena? (To attack/select enemies + 'E' for interactions)
Q3 - When financially able, will you replace the avatar items created using genAI?
Q4 - Do you have a list of titles? (If yes, could I get it PM'd?)
& would you be willing to help pinpoint some of their origins?
Q5 - Do you have a (or multiple) favorite Sylesti species?
There are well over 100 Hair Styles available in the Wardrobe. You can purchase them with an array of Advancement Points or Diamonds.
There are a couple of glasses as Avatar Head Items, but not a huge selection. They can also be found in the Wardrobe. Depending on the source, their acquisition will vary.

I don't think so, no. I think going to a larger Party-based Battle system will make it too convoluted. Originally, the notion was to kind of make it like the traditional Pokemon-style where you're cycling through a 'party' of 6 pets. But with how Sylestia has evolved, I don't think it would fit very well at this point.
However, I do have plans down the road to add in a 'raid' like system where you can send out an army of your pets to handle significant tasks. It would essentially be like an auto battle system where the 'fun' would be in your preparation of your raid group and then sending them out to fight - so you wouldn't be doing combat of 20, or whatever, pets at a time lol. This would not replace the current system - it would be an entirely new, additional, feature. But this would make it fun to have an expanded roster of pets to work on and raise up. It would also open the door to allow co-op interactions with the feature where you can team up with other players too.

1. I suppose that could be feasible, but I have no ETA on when such a feature could be added in.
2. It's kind of tricky as the scripting for all regions is different. At this point, I honestly can't tell you the reason why it doesn't already exist. I am sure I tried years ago and ran into a roadblock that I then didn't want to spend the time to bypass lol. With the revamp of the entire Exploration system on the horizon, this probably isn't something I would be willing to spend time on.
3. We have used AI a couple of times to create some Avatar Items and a few other miscellaneous assets as our finances and Dragoil's time can only cover so much. In general, it works well for some stuff, but not for others. I can say that I have absolutely zero plans to ever replace our artwork with AI. If I were financially able, I would hire even more artists. However, if done well and properly, AI can be used to supplement existing artwork needs that aren't really feasible with current financing / artist time. At this point in time though, I haven't used AI to make anything in awhile and have no immediate plans to in the near future. It is very impressive technology when used properly though.
4. Kind of. But not really. I just have everything that's listed in the database table for them. As time has gone on, I've been trying to update them with a 'description' of where they are acquired from, but a lot of them still don't have descriptions. Eventually, I do plan on adding an 'Achievement' type system to Sylestia and in there will be all of the game's Titles and where to acquire them from.
5. My go to answer for this question is always Draeyl because they were largely the one original species I really wanted lol. However, now with 22 total species to choose from, I will say that I am most proud of what the whole team did with the Ferrikki. I love their base concept, the quality of the artwork, the way their Genes and Mutations flow, and of course, how highly regarded they are from the community. I definitely can't wait to finally get to the point where we can start churning out new species again.
