Hisao turns on his phone and hands it to her. "In the future, we use things like these to communicate far distances or to entertain ourselves. It's pretty much useless for those purposes in this era though. We also continue to research pokemon, but living side by side with them is very common. Civilization grows and so did our bonds with them."
"Fascinating..." Gaia carefully examines the device, turning it over, an expression of surprise finding its way to her face as she managed to turn it on. Wisteria watched curiously over her shoulder, reaching a hand over to touch the device.
"Lady Gaia, let me see it, I'm a professor, science is my department-" As he attempted to reach over to take the device, it slipped from Gaia's hand. Both shared an expression of panic on their face as it tumbled to the floor, and the panic turned to surprise as it hovered mere inches above the ground, before floating its way back in front of you. On the screen, you could see what appeared to be a map of the settlement displayed.
"Well, I'm not sure if I'd say I've been... training them, per se" Wisteria admitted. "Mostly studying behaviors and the like... I don't think I'm nearly well equipped enough to handle a dragon type" He laughed lightly. Turning his attention to the three pokemon around him.
"This green-blue one here is Bulbasaur, he's a grass and poison type... this blue one with the orange cheeks is called mudkip, he's a water type, and this black and red one is Litten, a fire type" he introduced the three pokemon.
The bulbasaur you waved to smiled and mimicked your wave with one of the vines sprouting from the bulb on its back, making a noise of amusement at you
"Oh, don't worry, you'll get the hang of it," they replies airily. "Just dodge the glowing blue flames and the pointy teeth and you'll be fine." Not that they've ever done that themselves, but some of the gym trainers they'd seen made it look easy enough?
"Ooh, so do you know what moves they've got? I haven't really seen Pokemon like these much in person before. Only on, like, televised battles and stuff."
Hm, well they'd actually been wondering if the professor had given the Pokemon nicknames, seeing as he seemed to be pretty invested in them, but they suppose it's not that strange for him to not have nicknamed them either. But still, that odd hunch from earlier crosses their mind again.
"Anyways, so, uh, probably a stupid question," they say, "but...what year is it?"

Wisteria stared at you blankly, blinking a few times. "Okay, uh, so I have no idea what a gym is, or what televised means" he says awkwardly. "They don't have very powerful moves of their own type yet, just vine whip, water gun, and ember... you can probably assume who uses what"
"Anyway, as for the current year, its 1522" He explains, still looking rather concerned. This was over 500 years before the year you were from.

He flipped over the phone in his hands but didn't spy a random rotom on it. "Huh. Seems like it's been modified. Shouldn't be able to do that..." He warily handed it to Wisteria. "It generated a map of this place, somehow. Is this enough evidence for you? May I stay...?"

"No- I mean, yes, it was already enough before it somehow constructed a perfect map of our settlement" Gaia nodded. "You may stay in the settlement... on the condition you join the Plasma exploration team." She decides.
"What? No fair- He was supposed to become my research assistant" Wisteria huffs, rolling his eyes at Gaia.
"Regardless, your knowledge from the future and experience with pokemon, as well as that device, will assist us greatly in these times" Gaia tells you. "You would make a wonderful asset to our team."

"Um, alright then. Seems reasonable enough. I've been wanting to do some traveling and pokemon battling before I came here anyway..." He turns to Wisteria. "Perhaps if I find the time I might still be of assistance," he chirps. "There might be pokemon here that will go extinct in the future, possibly still undiscovered in my time. I think this could prove to be very beneficial for both parties. If I manage to survive in the wilderness, anyway. My whole life, I've always had a pokemon to accompany me on expeditions. Hmm, I guess I could use berries to lure one..."

"Perfect, I'm glad we've reached a satisfactory compromise" Lady Gaia smiles. "If you really are comfortable with working alongside pokemon, perhaps we can help you find a partner" She offers.
"Honestly... I'd say he's gotten along well with my current research subjects... I'd be willing to let one of them to accompany you, so long as you'd be willing to continue to study whichever one you take with you" Wisteria says, gesturing down to litten, bulbasaur, and mudkip

"Ah, thank you." Hisao hummed as he looked at them. He kind of wanted to take them all with him, but it would be unfair to Wisteria, who was already generous enough to let him have one. "I guess I'll take litten, then. Is that okay with you, litten? Do you mind coming with me? We might have to fight a lot of pokemon and work as a team during those battles."
