She gives a snort and turns sniffing the air. She seems to catch a scent that you can't smell and puts her nose too the ground, tracking
I watch and flick my ears, somewhat impressed. If she manages this, she'll be promoted, but to beta. Not yet, since she hasn't yet proven her loyalty. I've no doubts she would be a great beta if I promoted her. With those thoughts, I wave my tail, indicating Malas to follow quietly as I stay behind Tundra, watching her progress.
Aspen shrugged. That was all right, it meant that no other wolf had tried to claim this territory. He decided to scout around, looking for a good place to set up a camp of sorts.

He suddenly looks alert, "I think I smell shrew," he whispers. The scent is faint but recent and you can smell it as well

As you walk you finally catch the scent, it smells like a Mountain Hare, or more commendably Tundra Rabbit. Perhaps this is Tundra's namesake, they do have similar coloring. Soon you can see the hare, sitting between to rocks. It's back is turned towards you and it is oblivious too your presence.
